imap not accepting logins

Hello, I changed all the "disable= no" to yes under ../xinet.d/imap, and I'm still getting "login disabled" whenever a user tries to login to their mailbox (we're using Thunderbird, and, yes, I did restart xinet.d). This error appears in the message log; imapd[14565]: Login disabled user=someuser auth=someuser host=[192.168.1.12] Any idea how to fix this? We're using Suse 9.3 and Sendmail. Most common and uncommon installation method for Acrobat Reader

Hello, I am having an argument with a co-worker about how the Acrobat Reader is commonly installed on Linux Systems and like to have your input on this. Here is my point of view: Acrobat Reader comes on most purchasable Linux distribution installation media and can be installed in this case running the specific administration interface under root where it will be installed on a default file system location. Another common method is downloading from Adobe's Web site. Two options are possible: RPM and .tar.gz Most commonly, one would download the RPM for convenience reasons and then do a rpm -i ... under root unless the browser pops up a default installer dialog. When the .tar.gz version is selected, one would extract the archive and then run under root the ./INSTALL choosing the default selections offered there. As an exception, one would choose a non-default location ( under /opt or /usr/local), maybe to run two versions parallel and then maybe link from /usr/bin/acroread.new to the new install location. Maybe, in a non-standard way, for development purposes, one would install under a user's home directory. My guess is that it's much less than 5 % of all Linux installations of Acrobat Reader possibly doing this. Now, my co-worker proclaims that this (under a user's home directory) is the common method to install Acrobat Reader under Linux and this opinion is percolated up the management hierarchy. I don't even want to start speculating for the underlying reasons here. I appreciate your comments on this. Maybe I am off, who knows? Thank you, Samartha ``

SuSE 9.3 and SMP

Hi theree, I'm installing SuSE 9.3 on a dual PII (2 * 512MB) but during installation there is only one cpu visible. Is installation always single cpu? Do I have to recompile the kernel with SMP support? -- Kind regards, Peter M. Hey Group; What the heck (cleaned up ) is causing SuSE to tell me as root (not "su") that I don't have permission to install a program. I then do "l /usr/lib/directory" and get "Permission denied" "root" installed it and is trying to "l" it. Susefirewall2 nat

I am trying to replace a dying redhat 7.3 box running the firewall for my local network. My setup is as follows. Internet | Linux box (Suse 9.3) eth1 has real ips eth1 24.128.81.1 gateway eth1:2 24.128.81.2 eth1:3 24.128.81.3 eth1:4 24.128.81.4 | eth0 has private ips eth0 192.168.1.1 gateway | Lan I have a couple workstations and a webserver on my lan Anything coming in from the internet works ok. Nat is setup to foward port 80 to my webserver at 24.128.81.3 private ip 192.168.1.3 In my susefirewall2 config I have FW_MASQUERADE="yes" FW_MASQ_DEV="$FW_DEV_EXT" FW_MASQ_NETS="192.168.1.0/24" FW_FORWARD_MASQ="0/0,192.168.1.3,tcp,80,80,24.128.81.3" rest omited Changed the sysctl file to read IP_FORWARD="yes" Problem is my internal network can no longer access the webserver. It hits the real ip on eth1 and doesn't forward to local network. I am missing some kind of route rule, I think.

nvidia and virtual console problems?

Hello all, I'm not exactly sure if the nvidia driver is responsible, but my virtual consoles appear to be completely garbled up (like someone wrote random data to the screen). Virtual console 1 is like that when I enter it; the others are completely black, yet after logging in (blindly), and giving the reset command, the screen starts garbling up as well as I type. It appears like the loaded console font somehow gets overwritten as soon as the nvidia driver is loaded. Any thoughts? Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Problems with grub

Dear list members - I've run into a problem trying to get grub working. I boot WinXP, SuSE 9.3, and Fedora 4. I have been using this and similar configurations for at least a year with no problem. I was trying out "suspend to disk" in SuSE 9.3. It worked ok a couple of times, but then one time when I turned my machine back on, the grub menu would not appear (there was a very brief message that flashed by before I could read it) and the machine would boot into WinXP. I have booted into SuSE with the rescue disk, but every attempt to get Grub installed fails. In Yast, everything seems to go ok until it tries to write the configuration, then it hangs and nothing more happens. I have to go to the console and kill the program. Any suggestions for how to get Grub installed again without wiping the disk and starting from scratch? I googled for similar problems, but could not find anything relevant. Thanks, Harry

Problems installing libnautilus!

Hi, I recently removed usr-local-bin apt repository and all the related packages and tried to install gnome from the gnome apt repository. I am having a weird problem. I get an error installting evolution rpm by doing apt-get install evolution I root caused to some missing rpm which in turn relied on other missing rpm and so on.. till I found that libnautilus.so.2 was missing. I tried doing % apt-get install libnautilus.so.2 Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done E: Package libnautilus.so.2 is a virtual package with no good providers. Do you know how can I resolve this? Thanks, -- Osho

Hi. I have an old server and a new server with LVM support.
