suggest a webcam and scanner that "just work" with NLD9 (SUSE 9.1)

Can you guys suggest some webcams that will "just work" with NLD9? I mean, no drivers, no patching, no other effort... Just plug it in and start using it. Should be a known and common model, nothing fancy, USB, and have 640x480. Maybe something from Creative, Philips, Logitec whatever. The same for a scanner, USB, no drivers required. HP maybe? Thanks.

adding new SCSI drives to system without rebooting

I have defined luns on a FC device. Is there a way to probe/reset the FC bus/controller to get the new devices? And, other than doing an ls, <probe< ls, is there a way to see which devices were added (maybe through the messages log?) Thanks eric

Device default permissions

Greetings, I have a problem with the modem device, we use uucp and everytime we need to access the ttyS1 device we get access denied, crw-rw---- 1 uucp uucp 4, 64 Jun 10 12:52 ttyS0 To me it seems to need execute access, I believe this is something that uucp is looking for. minicom and wvdial are quite happy with the above permission structure, but uucp is complaining. I usually chmod +x /dev/ttyS0 and that works, however this is not really a method I am happy with. OH and the permissions are reset at every reboot. Mplayer-suite broken?

Hi, fixed the apt thing, but seems like the package I was running behind (Mplayer-suite) is broken, or so it says apt. Makes it dependent on faad2, which when installing says that there 's no candidate aeolia:/home/sergio # apt-get install faad2 Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Package faad2 has no available version, but exists in the database. This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of sources.list E: Package faad2 has no installation candidate aeolia:/home/sergio # I think I have every repository under the sun (at least those I have been able to find and add without breaking the 299 line length) and when I try to install Mplayer it tells me: Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: MPlayer-suite: Depends: faad2 but it is not installable E: Broken packages Any ideas here? Epson stylus c46 driver?

I bought an Epson Stylus C46 printer, which works fine under WindowsXP. On the same dual boot box I have SUSE 9.1. Is there a way I can get this printer to work using SuSE Linux? There is no driver from Epson available on the Epson website for linux. In YAST2 the printer is recognized, however it can't be installed as this model is not available in the list of Epson printers.. -- Frits Wüthrich

USB HD and SuSE9.#

Hey Group; I see a problem with SuSE 9.# and a running USB HD. Ref. -" mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 " ERROR: mount /dev/sda1 is not a block device I have tried booting and sometimes it works. I have tried adding it to /etc/fstab. And no matter which kernel or thing I try - sometimes it will mount right after booting and others it won't. In any case (not running KDE) it seems to only work at boot time and for a short order. After about 10 minutes it will not mount at all. I have tried power on the HD first, plugged or unplugged and sometimes it works. It works about 25% of the time is the problem. Which deamon could be causing this problem? SuSE 9.3 Pro & Adaptec I2O 3200S Controller

I'm trying to set up 9.3 on an older server which has an Adaptec 3200S RAID controller. With 9.2 Pro, the adapter was identified and the release loaded with no problems. SLES 9 loads with a few manual steps, however 9.3 doesn't see the card and array at all. Has anyone experienced the same issues? If so, what were you able to do to allow the install to proceed?
