I'm sorry to bother you on this other list, but we have no other option, because: - The problem can not be discussed in suse-linux-s, as, for one thing, they can't post on it. - If they could it would be useless, because no list admin reads that list in Spanish. - We have written to the admin, without answer, yet. - They have contacted feedback, without answer, yet. - Our Novell contact in the list, despite being helpful, has being unable to get anything done about it, yet, again. - This has been going on for months; to my knowledge, it also affect some people in this English list. The problem affects several people, whose emails to the list are invariably marked as spam by the SuSE servers, and rejected. To be precise, the Bayesian filter mistakenly marks them as having 99% probability of being spam. How can I remove this message. fstab Question

I recently encountered a situation where I had improperly uninstalled some software and left an unused logical volume entry in fstab (last line in the table). I had removed the /dev entry for it manually, not knowing there was a utility provided by this 3rd party software that would have cleanly removed it. I couldn't find any information about utilities for maintaining fstab, so I held my breath, pulled the file up under Kate, and deleted that last line. I was then able to successfully re-install this 3rd party software and my system seems to still be perfectly ok. The re-install of the software put the entry back in the file, created the /dev entry under it, etc. My question is, are there any programs that allow you to manage fstab (check entries to see if they are childless, delete entries, etc.)? Trying to take a look at BlogBridge, which is a java application available for download here http://www.blogbridge.com/download-linux.php Thing is, it wants to run a jlnp file to install, and the associations are apparently either non-existant or broken on my 9.3 box. Type: application/x-java-jnlp-file Simply causes both Firefox and Konqueror to pop up a file save as/open with dialog. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this file association set up right so it will run? raid sync question

I played to day a little with my raid setup, by moving 1 of the raid disks from /dev/hdb to /dev/hdc. I expected that I should reconfigure my raid configuration, but somehow the system picked the change and started to /dev/hdc[123] automatically. Very convenient, but how does the system know that hdb had been moved to hdc and that the raid is now composed of hda and hdc?? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

What's a clipboard?

I believe I've read about this somewhere, but I honestly do not understand what is going on with X copy buffers. If, for example, I go to KPDF and select text, then select copy to clipboard. When I subsequently go to Emacs (recent CVS) and attempt to paste using Shift+Insert, the most recent text I put into the Emacs killring is pasted into the buffer. Sometimes using the middle mouse button works for pasting external text into Emacs, but not in this case. Emacs is not the only app that behaves in an unexpected way when trying to copy and paste between apps. For example, if I take what I copied from KPDF and paste it into a Kate edit buffer, select it, then middle click in the Emacs buffer the text is inserted into the Emacs buffer. Mozilla also seems to act differently than many other apps. In particular, the location field does not copy and paste as expected. Is there a way to explain this behavior in a general way? -- Regards, Steven

ATI Driver Install Experience

Hi, A while back, when I bought a nice flat-panel display that included a DVI port, I decided I wanted maximum display quality and looked into video boards that support DVI. After reading a Tom's hardware review article (<http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041129/index.html>), I chose the an Abit ATI-based board (Radeon 9600 series R9600XT-VIO). The video quality is superb. Stunning, really. (And by the way, I went through the whole font thing and ultimately rebuilt the FreeType software with hinting enabled as well as made new font selections pretty much system-wide.) However, my first round of driver installation left me without 3D support. This is really of little consequence to me, since I'm not in the habit of running any software that uses it, with the possible exception of occasionally playing around with Celestia (<http://celestia.sourceforge.net/> / <http://www.shatters.net/celestia/>). But I wanted to get all the features of this board working, so this morning I decided to attempt the latest ATI-supplied driver software. Upon visiting <https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=1176> (via <http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html >) I discovered that there is now an installer program (<http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-8.14.13.run>) that handles most of the messy details of getting the proper complement of drivers, kernel modules, control panels and whatnot properly installed and configured. Based on the log file it wrote during its execution, I see that it orchestrated the various kernel make invocations and that it is aware of the 2.6 vs. 2.4 kernel differences. A few things I'll note about this process: - You still are instructed to run fglrxconfig after the installer completes. When all the dust settled from that minor ordeal (it asks you lots of questions, many of which I had no definitive answer for and simply accepted the default) I compared the xorg.conf file it created with my previous, working one and found that very little had changed. Apparently in the new one I chose to enable PseudoColorVisuals where I had not the previous time around. I ended up copying only the ATI device section over from the new xorg.conf to the prevoius one. - The "fireglcontrolpanel" application installed in /usr/X11R6/bin shows that I'm running driver 8.14.13, which corresponds to the version of the installer. However, for reasons I cannot explain, the installed RPMs appear to be older: % rpm -qa |egrep fglrx fglrx_6_8_0-8.12.10-1 km_fglrx-8.12.10-1.1 This is puzzling and I can't say I like it, but I'm not going to upset things by trying to resolve it. At least not yet. - As with just about any change to the video configuration, KDE flies off the handle and relocates most (but not all!) of my desktop icons to the top of the screen. It used to peeve me, but now I just take a screen snapshot first and then put everything back where I like it based on that picture. I confirmed at least minimally correct installation and 3D operation by virtue of the fact that fgl_glxgears runs now, whereas before this installation it would not. I also tried a couple of 3D games I found in my KDE -> Games menu, and they seem to be using the hardware 3D rendering, too. For the record, glxgears reports around 2400 FPS and fgl_glxgears shows around 440 FPS. If anybody has any questions, suggestions or explanations for the version mis-match thing, I'd love to hear them. Randall Schulz
