Greetings, I have decided to try Evolution, as it seems to handle meeting requests from ms clients better. Kmail always showed the request but never updates my calender, when I click accept to a meeting request. The question however is that it takes 10 times longer to download my mail with evolution than it does with Kmail. For example, Kmail takes a few seconds to download 2 MB of mail evolution takes about 4 minutes. Is there a logical explanation for this? TIA Chad

Xen and the art of Online Updates

I don't know if I'm one of the brave, but I'm trying to get Xen running on a fully patched SuSE 9.3 system. It works a treat, well it works with one small problem. I used Yast to install 9.3 into a partition, I've created an fstab and built the xen config file and the virtual machine boots without a problem. I have used Yast to configure the network which is working, I can even ping www.suse.de through my firewall, however online update complains that it can't connect to www.suse.de to download the server list. I have since done a clean install and tried again and it's still the same. I have successfully updated the host computer today using you, so I know I have no underlying problems on my network. The SuSE firewall is turned off on the virtual machine and I can ssh to it from other computers on my network. KDE after installation?

Hi All, Just installed SuSE 9.3 on a PIII 866, 384 MB RAM, Samsung 19" LCD panel. The installation hiccuped at first, after the initial installation screens the video looked like I needed a horizontal adjust scroll wheel on the back of the monitor like in the old B/W TV days. Couldn't read anything, so restarted the installation in text mode. I set the video display to a safe 1024 x 768, tested it, and KDE started with no problems. My monitor put up a window stating that preferred settings are 1280 x 1024, so after installation I changed it to the preferred settings. Tested it, no problems with the display, everything looked perfect. I downloaded all of the SuSE updates and rebooted. Upon reboot, the login screen is a plain login window, and after logging in I am confronted with ...nothing. A right-mouse click gives some options, including an X Term. From there I can type KDE and get the normal KDE windows (sort of). Some manipulation gets the menu bar back across the bottom. Where can I change this to set KDE as the default Windows system upon login? TIA, 2AM PS - It's this sort of thing that would drive a Linux NOOB back to Redmond (I'm writing this from my XP Pro box).

Hi all i tried installing amule yesterday and for that i needed wxGTK 2.6 so i dled the source and tried to install but i had some problems so i removed it via rpm -e, then i removd all the files "rm -f /usr/local/bin/wx* ..." then i dled the suse rpm and installed but now im having problems at boot time i get a funny looking login screen(all white) and a xconsole open showing "Console log for marko Jun 6 17:01:54 marko syslog-ng[6256]: Changing permissions on special file /dev/tty10 Jun 6 17:01:54 marko kernel: mtrr: 0xd8000000,0x8000000 overlaps existing 0xd8000000,0x1000000 Jun 6 17:16:45 marko kernel: JBD: barrier-based sync failed on hdb5 - disabling barriers" and when i try to run amule "/home/marko/.kde/share/config/gtkrc:37: error: unexpected identifier `gtk-alternative-button-order', expected keyword - e.g. `style' Initialising aMule Checking if there is an instance already running... .alias entry for more commands

Hi, I have more (three) scripts I would like to run as the root user. For that I have setup an entry in the .alias file of my normal user as follows: alias combo="su -c "/bin/scr1 && /bin/scr2 && /bin/scr3"" No surprise, but it doesn't work:( I attempted to increase the number of the " chars on many different ways;), but still no fruits. Please anyway knowing the trick? Thanks, Pelibali

Hi All, When i try and write a video dvd with k3b on suse 9.1 with a verbatim 8x dvd i get the following error: :-( Failed to change write speed: 8310->11080 I have tried ignore speed but it trashed the dvd. But when i write to a verbatim dvd+rw dvd it writes the dvd. Why is this happening? Dial-on-demand

I am using SuSE 9.0 and installed ADSL The Ethernetcard is installed as Accton Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 model NC 100 and configured as eth0 with DHCP DSL is configured as dsl0 provider Planet.nl At 10.0.0.138 I get a Speedtouch screen in which I can switch between connected and disconnected. Trying in Kinternet with Yast2 to configure dial-on-demand (as suggested in the Administration guide) with dns 1 as 195.121.1.34 and dns 2 195.121.1.66 (as suggested by the provider) failed. Can anybody tell me how to proceed to the desired state of dial-on-demand?

Install from Boot Floppies

I'm trying to install 9.2 on an older machine that doesn't have a cdrom drive so I downloaded the floppy boot disks and module disks from the suse ftp site. In ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.2 I only see bootdisk1 bootdisk2 and bootdisk3 Every time I try to install I get to a certain point that asks me for bootdisk4. I've tried 1, 2, and 3 at this point and also the module disks to no avail. I googled and found absolutely nothing helpful. Has anyone seen this silliness?

Mine is a 17" LCD. I run Suse 9.2 on it. Never had a problem. The screen has the usual auto-adjust for size, and it works well. I have it running at 1280X1024 60HZ, 24 bit Color depth. James W.
