kernel: mtrr: 0xd8000000,0x8000000 overlaps existing 0xd8000000,0x1000000

Anyone got any ideas what the problem is?

Hi, I remember to have seen such a message with such addresses when I was using a Matrox G450 and earlier video card. This memory range seems to belong to video. You can run with this warning without any problem. If you don't like it you can disable MTRR at compilation or unregister one field at boot : see the MTRR doc and have a look at "cat /proc/mtrr" I don't remember more, but if necessary I'll dig in my brain in order to find more.
