Not sure what you want to know: Took 2 HP DL380's with 6GB RAM, Dual 3.4GHz EM64T Xeon's and RAID 5+1 Installed Suse Enterprise 9 on one (out of box install) Installed RH ES4 on the other (out of box install) Ran Apache 1.3 and Informix 10 on both boxes Both machines were using VIP addresses behind a Red Line load balancers. The Red Line boxes try to balance the load by directing traffic to the server that responds quickest. Looking at the MRTG graphs the RH box runs at 9Mb/s and the Suse 26Mb/s. I don't know why the response time of the Suse box was so much faster that the RL box directed so much more traffic. EchoLinux and NATing

Hey Group; In the past I had a phoneline connection that worked great (except buffering) with a VoIP HAM related program called echoLinux and echogui. As a matter of fact I used to talk on the 442.150 repeater in Austin form Sugar Land. Trouble is when we got a adsl line from Altell and a DSL Speed Stream 5200 router it ended. Our router has a DHCP IP# that is stable and all boxes on the LAN have 192.168.1.# If I call uup echogui it goes out and comes back with a list of stations available. Thats when the problem starts - I never connect with a out station. I think it is a port forwarding problem - to which I have setup on the DSL router tcp, port number (as shown in /etc/services), my IP# (192.168.1.#) and the rebooted it. No luck! YaST Removed /etc/lp0

I have a HP Business InkJet 2250 connected to a parallel printer port on my SuSE system. The last time that I was able to share the printer was under SuSE 9.1 using LPRng. Using CUPS, I could never get it configured. I didn't bother with it under SuSE 9.2. After upgrading to SuSE 9.3, I decided to have another go at sharing the printer with other systems. After mucking about with it over the weekend, I noticed that there was a cupsd.conf.rpmnew file. I decided to remove and re-install the software using YaST. Although the CUPS installation went smoothly, I continued to have problems. The reason I was having problems was that YaST had removed /dev/lp0. Every time that I try to add the device, YaST complains that the printer isn't there. How do I get /dev/lp0 back short of re-installing SuSE 9.3 on another disk? Before I go about reinventing the wheel on this, does anyone have a howto on getting all these things working together on SuSE AMD-64 9.2? Or better yet, rpm's for this configuration that will work with one of the available update utilities? This is a new server and I have yet to choose an update tool. Thanks Rob

syslog

My curiosity is getting the best of me - Fonts

My fonts are dorked. To make a long story short, I had to move my 8.2 installed /usr and /var to a different partiton, to make room for my 9.3 install. Now when booting the old 8.2 install, the fonts are totally dorked. (Not sure how else to say it). Everything else seems to be working fine. I probably won't matter for long, as I'm migrating to the 9.3 install, and hope to be finished with that in a few days. But, my curiosity is getting the better of me, and was wondering how to fix this, and perhaps what caused it. 8.0 boot file is bad

in Suse 8.0 I have to use startx to bring up kde. just before the login-in text mode-I get an error as follows: /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S11nscd~ line 123 syntax error: unexpected end of line When I go there, sure enough, the file is truncated in the middle of a loop statement.
