Define root's email from address

I have some scripts which use the "mail" program to email a remote email address. The problem I am having is that the upstream mail server we send through isa bouncing these mails back as undeliverable as the senders address is not resolving. The error is similar to: <root(a)store.atlantic>... Domain of sender address root(a)store.atlantic does not exist (in reply to MAIL FROM command) How do I setup root's senders address to be something like root(a)myvalidinternetdomain.com ? I assume it is all down to /root/.mailrc, but I am struggling to find the appropriate syntax for doing this. Any ideas ? Richard

Maintaining Gnome settings in KDE

Is there a way (without starting gnome-settings-daemon at KDE startup) to maintain Gnome settings while using KDE? I'm using KDE as my default environment, but I've got font settings for gtk apps I want maintained (fonts, styles, etc.). At this time I'm starting the gnome-settings-daemon at KDE start, but was wondering if there was a better way. changing PIM to kdepim

I'm thinking of changing my pim to kdepim, and I have a few questions. >From what I've seen (having never run it), the mail client keeps its mail in ~/Mail. Where do the contact manager, task manager, and calendar keep their respective data files? I have to keep a desktop and a laptop synchronized, especially for contacts, tasks and addresses. Does this require a fancy sync program, or can I just use something like unison? I have two desktops. They are different enough that I can't simply link the home directory of one to the other, but several of the directories in my home directory on my secondary desktop are links to my server via nfs, which doubles as my main desktop. Evolution won't let me do this with the ~/.evolution directory without loads of permission errors. Will I have trouble with the kpim applications? TIA.

9.3 Install Failure

Decided to install SuSE 9.3 last night on my main box which consists of a single 160GB EIDE drive used for storage only, i.e., no OS on it, and 4 removable SCSI HDs, only one of which is turned on at a time. There are multiple other devices in the system but I believe these are the only two of importance. What I experienced during this SuSE 9.3 install I also experienced trying to install Mepis 2004 on another of the SCSI drives. The install goes smoothly, with a start by reformatting the drive to get the OS, and by selecting to place the boot info on the mbr of the SCSI drive, changing from the default suggestion of placing it on the mbr of the EIDE drive. **I'm thinking my problem lies here.** Upon initial reboot I get the following (1) if the install DVD is still in the drive or (2) if the DVD is removed from the drive. (1) GNU GRUB version 0.95 (638K lower/523184 upper memory) next is a text box display with three boot options --------------------------- SuSE Linux 9.3 Floppy Failsafe – SuSE Linux 9.3 --------------------------- and some instructions below the text box. Selecting the SuSE 9.3 option and <CR> gives: Booting 'SUSE LINUX 9.3' kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 vga=0x317 selinux=0 splash=silent resume=/dev/sda1 showopts Error 22: No such partition Press any key to continue . . . doing so puts you back into the text box to choose again (2) GNU GRUB version 0.95 (638K lower/523184 upper memory) [Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename.] grub> _ {flashing} trying a couple of suggested options, I get the following: grub> boot Error 8: Kernel must be loaded before booting grub> kernel Error 1: Filename must be either an absolute pathname or blocklist Not sure where to go from here other than disabling the EIDE drive and trying from scratch. KDE update screwwed up one userr

On my 9.2 system, while doing a Yast online update, the user I was running from got messed up during the update, causing some major issues with Mozilla programs only. (If while logged in as a different user, I can do a alt F2 and run any of the mentioned packages as the damaged user, no problemo). Can I delete the KDE property files for that user (logged in as root) then log in as the broken user to create new files? TIA Harry G

Thanks NSK. I hadn't noticed the "embedded" tab :-) However, the error has now changed to "There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle this file type." When I had KHTML in the "General" tab I got the "can't find KHTML executeable" error message, but I suppose that that might be to be expected. Jos van Kan has also made a suggestion - I'll respond to him via his email. I'm still open to suggestions. Thanks for helping me get that bit organised. Regards, Colin

All of those RPMs are installed already. Kaffine comes up and comes back and say it can not play it. I have tried decss loaded. Problems installing gpg2

Firefox 1.0.4 vs. various extensions

Hi, Is there anyone out there using Firefox 1.0.4 (or 1.0.3) together with the newest 'Adblock' and/or 'Flashblock' extension(s)? I'm on SUSE 9.1, and when I tried to move from 1.0 to 1.0.3 I had serious problems with the above extensions even separately. So before moving to the newest release, 1.0.4, just collecting some info; all kind of feedbacks are very welcome! Thanks, Pelibali
