Hey all,
I really need to cut back on the spending, so unfortunately have to share a
dial-up access. I've got one PC with SuSE 9.2, and the other (in another
room) that runs W98.
I bought a dial-up modem that has a built in router and 2 NIC's, one card
for each system.
My question(s):
Once I put the NIC's in the systems and hook to the router, what kind of
thing(s) do I need to do on the SuSE box? I want to use my dial-up access
number and password, so that shouldn't be hard to reconfigure on the windows
box, but I'm not sure what to do once I have each PC hooked up to the router.
Thanks for any help with this. I have tried to read and study some
networking sites, but all it seems to do is confuse me all the more. If
someone could just give me a few steps or pointers to try, it'd sure be nice.

Hi all,
does anybody know how i can make the SLES9 to recognize SCSI LUNs >= 8?
I have set up a SLES9 (for IA64 architecture) on a DELL 1850 hardware,
which has to be connected to a HP EVA3000 SAN via two Qlogic HBAs ql2342.
The shipped drivers for the Qlogic HBAs work fine, I'm just not able
to recognize virtual disks presented with LUNs >= 8, which I think is
due to the module scsi_mod.
I tried the parameters "max_luns=128" and "max_reported_luns=128" for
module "scsi_mod" both in /etc/modprobe.conf.local and in
/boot/grub/menu.lst, but still only LUNs < 8 are recognized by the driver.
The qla2*-Modules don't seem to have any options regarding # of LUNs.
The HBA's BIOS is configured to see 128 LUNs.
It is a fresh installation with all the latest updates from Suse as of
20.1.2005.
/proc/cmdline contains:
root=/dev/sda6 max_luns=128 max_report_luns=128 vga=0x317 selinux=0
console=tty0 resume=/dev/sda2 elevator=cfq splash=silent

Hi
It's ages since I had to do a dialup installation.
My client's ISP (wanadoo, Spain) tells me to use kppp to
configure the installation. When I go to install kppp, yast
tells me that kinternet is the tool to use.
In the days of 6.2 I seem to remember it all being done with
Yast. Surely, they write to the same files don't they?
Does it matter which I use?
Cheers, Steve.
Hi,
I downloaded the last version (pwc-10.0.6a) from
http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/files/ and tried to compile it for
SuSE 9.1 but I get errors.
I installed the kernel sources, did a "make oldconfig" (is make
cloneconfig better ?), had to make a link to a symbols file (don't
remember exactly).
That's what is output :

I googled, but didn't find much. One thing that might help : my gcc is
version 3.3.3 (standard installation from DVD). In one message from
google, I read that the module should be compiled with the same compiler
the kernel had been compiled with. How do I check this ?
Any suggestions, pointers ?
TIA

I installed a version of k3b 11.20-3 and now my machine doesn't know
how to burn. In k3b it says "no burner found" or something to that
effect (even though I can se the burner in k3b setup. Also, I can see
the burner under Hardware Information in Yast and under the CD-ROM
option.
I get the follow when I do a "cat /var/log/messages" and I believe
this is why my burner no longer works. This is after restarting the
machine so this is mostly from the boot process itself:

Available today:
ULB GNOME 2.8.0.2
This is a minor revision, not a full desktop upgrade. It includes
netapplet, the seriously cool network switcher, as well as updated
gnome-vfs2 and libgnome packages to use Firefox as the default browser,
cos I've just fallen in love with it over the last few months - so it
now depends upon SuSE's MozillaFirefox package (from the mozilla apt
component)
(Note: built for SuSE 9.1)

I recently had to rebuild both courier-imap and postfix from source to
include support for MySQL. Although both are currently working, I have
encountered several problems:
1. I downloaded courier-imap-3.0.7-3.3.src.rpm but when I built
the binary RPMs, they were created as (non-root user)
courier-imap-3.0.7-1.suse920.i586.rpm and show up as v3.0.7-1
in YaST. The spec file contains the correct 3.0.7-3.3 version.
The postfix version remained postfix-2.1.5-3.2 though I had
to manually search the SuSE FTP site to find the v3.2 source.
2. The installed binaries of courier-imap-3.0.7-1 are NOT marked
with an "-i-" in YaST and hence YoU attempts to update them
which would then overwrite the MySQL support. I tried to change
or remove them from YoU but was unable to change the "Action"
column. This means I can no longer use YoU at all unless I
want to reinstall all binaries created from source afterwards.
Questions/Suggestions:
1. How can I remove binaries created from source from YoU, i.e.,
manually force them to "-i-" or at least override YoU insistence
on updating them?
2. How can I correct the version number in courier-imap?
3. Suggestion: When SuSE builds binaries, why not go for an
"everything but the kitchen sink" approach, such as including
MySQL and PostgreSQL support, thus enabling them to remain
properly updateable via YoU? (When I rebuilt courier-imap to
include MySQL, it created an additional binary RPM:
courier-imap-mysql-3.0.7-1.suse920.i586.rpm which seems to be
a good approach should I decide to install an "everything but
the kitchen sink" binary but do not want, for example, MySQL
support.)

I must precise the device name, but eth0 and eth1 is swapping.
Reading the mailing-list, i saw the option PERSISTENT_NAME for my ifcfg-XXX

When I tried ti set en0 and en1 to name my ethernet card, my cards still be
named eth0 and eth1 allocated in a random order.
Someone can explain me where is my error ?

Hellos SuSE people,
Recently upgrade to KDE3.4 on SuSE 9.2 Have this very aggravating
problem with Kwallet which demands that I supply passwords for all of
my email accounts (4) and other things. Now, my ISP doesn't require it
at every login, so why should Kmail /Kwallet ? (Shades of Microsoft)
(Who needs this crap - that is why I quit Windows)
Disabled Kwallet but every time Kmail starts it demands the passwords.
I can go in and configure Kmail with the correct passwords and it will
behave properly, but the next time I start Kmail it "forgets" my
password configuration and demands the individual passwords again.
Really getting tired of this BS !! Really don't need automated stuff
"looking after me". How do I make Kmail forget about this stupid
Kwallet thing that 99% of us don't want or need ???
Bob S.
Hello,
Just now I've been using apt to update the source of available packages. Today
the KDE 3.4 packages has been included to the kde3-stable component (SuSE
8.2)
Is KDE 3.4.0 already released?. I think the targeted day was precisely today.
No news at kde.org still.
