Hi all This seems like something I should be able to fix myself but I can't find the solution in the kmail settings. Kmail displays my received messages from the lates to the earliest. I want to set it the other way round. Can somebody point me in the right direction please ? TIA Mike

Channel bundling with gigabit ethernet

Hi all, some general questions on the subject and a SuSE-specific one. I have a network which requires very good performance. There is a file server and several clients, each of which moves very large data (GBs) around. As long as only one client accesses the server, performance is good, but when several clients at once access the server, performance drops. As would be expected. General questions: Is it possible to improve the server's network performance by adding a second GBit ethernet card? I think a PCI card is bound by the PCI bus performance. Would a second card, if PCI, even enhance performance noticeably? If I upgrade to PCIe, or use a mainboard with onboard GBit ethernet, would that change anything? So far, I was thinking in terms of using different subnets hanging on different ethernet ports on the server. Provided that both GBit cards have full performance, if clients on different subnets both wold get the full performance of a GBit card. Am I right? Now the SuSE question. The solution with two separate subnets is, of course, somewhat suboptimal. Does SuSE Linux provide a way to use a sort of channel bundling, so that the full network can benefit on the advantages of having two network adapters on the server? How would I do that? Cups, special class or alias

It's posible to make an alias printer that would send each job it receives to other 2 printers?. Let me explain, i would like to have a repository of printed reports, i have a laser printer working with cups and a spool for pdf creation too, i would like to send jobs, lets say, to the reports spool, and this will send a copy to the real printer and another to the pdf creator script. I know i can save all the jobs with the PreserveJobFiles option, but i would like to preview those reports and even chose to reprint only some pages from it (for example pages 10-25 out of 300) Thanks in advance

Hope that the ram I sent you did not contribute to the problem. I assume you figured out the USB thing. Yes, a few years ago that Voodoo3 card was pretty high end and performed very well. Still a pretty good card. Too bad it is not supported anymore. The driver search for that card was a real pain. I was a little surprised when I found it. I'm sure that card may last you awhile if you continue to use that mobo and stay 32 bit for awhile. Don't worry about the stamps. Although I am not a stamp collector, I am sure somebody will appreciate getting them. They won't go in the garbage. I am sure you have been very fair and generous in the material you have sent me in repayment for the mobo and cards. Hope you enjoy your new system and that it provides what you wanted. kvpnc / vpnc

Hello all, I installed vpnc on my 9.2 pro box, and for a front end installed kvpnc. I copied all my settings from my windows box for the profile, and when I hit connect all goes well until it prints this line: /usr/sbin/vpnc: unknown host `<Replace with your gateway IP address>' I cannot find anywhere where the <Replace... line would be, I've specified an address for the vpn gateway... I've looked through the vpnc script (~/.kde/share/apps/kvpnc/vpnc-script.myconn) and the config file at ~/.kde/share/config/kvpncrc but I cannot find anything about this line... Any ideas? Thanks

Cannot upgrade to 9.2

Hello - I have SuSE 9.1 running on my desktop and am trying to upgrade to SuSE 9.2 unsuccessfully. My desktop is configured with 2 disk drives, the first drive and part of the second have a number of partitions which are used by Windows XP, and the second drive has two partitions for Linux, one for the swap and one for the rest. Approx 70gbytes are available for Linux. When I attempt to upgrade, during the automatic installation, I reach the point where YAST2 asks me what language I am using and I accept the selection for English. Shortly after that point I get a red box with an very UNHELPFUL error message - "An Error occurred during the installation" At which point I cannot proceed any further as the computer/mouse/keyboard is completely hung. Attempting to use the manual mode gets me a little bit more info... I get beyond the language settings, am asked to confirm driver activation settings for my Adaptec 29160 Ultra160 SCSI card (aic7xzxx), the hard disk controller, DM DM-MOD, DM-Snapshot at which point I got an error message about the partitioning for /dev/hda is not readable by "parted" My understanding is since my first disk drive is being used by Windows, this is ok and understandable and I simply click on OK to accept this fact and tell the installation to proceed. At this point I get the red dialog box telling me "An error occurred during the installation" and the computer again hangs and cannot proceed any further. I do not think the partition tables are in error since both Windows and SuSE9.1 work fine, but I got a suspicion that SuSE9.2 is not handling the partitioning configuration properly and getting confused about it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should proceed? Sincerely yours.... Marc Chamberlin...

Hi, seem to have exactly the same issue as http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2005-Feb/0476.html I can connect + query nicely using isql, but when connecting via PHP the following error shows up: /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/php/extensions/unixODBC.so: undefined symbol: SQLAllocEnv As I originally experienced this issue under SUSE 9.1, I had hoped that 9.2 would solve it and upgraded - but without success... My configuration is (except for the odbc settings) out-of-the-box... Thus I am stuck now - Any help would be greately appreciated. Best Regards, Sven

Nagios installation

Hi I'm installing Nagios on my little network, using Yast "directly" from SuSE. it installed ok, i am now trying to configure it. anything i should watch out for? When i was reading trough the documentation it refers to /usr/local/nagios/ is there any documentation from SuSE that shows the changes that is done? regards Even
