Help with swat (from Samba)

I upgraded a test server directly from 9.0 to 10.0 I'm having trouble now getting swat to run. (Samba Web Admin Tool) Any ideas welcome? === I've got it disabled currently in the xinit.d config while I'm troubleshooting. SuSE 10.0 not responding to "shutdown-r now"

What could be the reason for Linux not executing a shutdown -r now triggered by root user? I updated via YOU my SuSE 10.0 (open suse distro), everything went fine, after that, since the kernel was updated, I proceeded to run shudown, the usual message appears but nothing happens. Tar backup question

I have my system back up now and want to back it up. I would like to backup the full disk with tar except for the /tmp /media /proc /dev directories to a usb drive /media/SEAGATE. Could someone please write me the EXACT sytax to do this? The last time I tried this, I ended up filling up the disk I was backing up with nothing on the /media/SEAGATE drive even though I though I was following the help on tar I found on the internet. Art

[SLE] HELP!!! Amarok Weirdness

I have been experiencing this problem with the current stable version of the amaroK player. Each time I load a playlits with a track count greater than 2, amaroK plays the second track up to the 11th second then it crashes. If I reload the apps, it plays the sound 3-4 times the normal speed, the sound is messed up and all other application using sound also do the same thing. i.e. when I play a movie from MPlayer or KCD Player. Is there something particularly wrong with amaroK or the sound drivers?

2 speakers (channel 1/2), 2 rear (channel 3/4) and subwoofer does not work

Hey guys, I have an Asus A7N8X-X mother board with a nForce2 AC97 Audio Controller (MCP) on board, with SUSE 10, and so, the rear (channel 3/4) boxes does not work, it's properly connected. Does somebody a clue about how to put those 2 rear channels to work? Thanks in advance Daniel

SuSE 10 - persistent scsi device names

I'm using SuSE 10 and need to have my scsi devices maintain the same name. They are actually SATA drives attached to a 3Ware 9000 controller. One drive rarely gets removed and the others are routinely removed and others plugged in their place or the system is booted without them. By default, the drives get device names of /dev/sda, sdb, sdc, etc., based on what port they're plugged into. If nothing is in port 0, the drive in port 1 gets sda. I would like for it to get sdb like it does when a drive is also attached to port 0. I'm a bit confused about udev, hotplug, scsidev and their interactions in spite of reading various man pages and manuals. After playing around with udevinfo I created this rule in /etc/udev/49-udev.rules: US="scsi", SYSFS{path}="pci-0000:00:09.0-scsi-0:0:0:0", NAME="sdb" but it had no effect. The drive in port 1 still got sda. I enabled boot.scsidev and the device /dev/scsi/sdh0-0c0i0l0 was created. However, /dev/sda was still created and assigned to the same drive. Am I supposed to get used to dealing with devices like /dev/scsi/sdh0-0c0i0l0 or is there some way to get persistent /dev/sda, sdb, etc. devices? Jason Joines =================================

Winex

Hello, The thred about wine made me think of this, but it's OT for that one so I figured I'd make a nice new thread. I used wine a few years ago and was impressed at what it was able to run. I tried to use winex to run Windows video games, though, and was never successful in getting it to work. I'm planning on giving winex a try on my SuSE 10.0 box soon, and I was wondering if anyone has used it and could let me know what I'm in for. Server hangs on shutdown

Hi I have an IBM x346 server running Suse SLES 9.2 2.6.5-7.139-bigsmp When I reboot by typing init 6 or reboot the shutdown process hangs. The last message on the console is "Please standby whilst system is rebooted" I have checked the /var/log/messages file and the only entry while shutting down is as follows Dec 22 11:19:10 init: Switching to runlevel: 6 Dec 22 11:19:16 sshd[5027]: Received signal 15; terminating. Dec 22 11:19:17 kernel: Kernel logging (proc) stopped. Dec 22 11:19:17 kernel: Kernel log daemon terminating. Dec 22 11:19:18 3 exiting on signal 15 Dec 22 11:26:20 syslogd 1.4.1: restart. viewing Quicktime videos with Mplayer on Suse 10.0 does not work

started an new thread as it seems the other isn't quite the same situation (sorry for practically hijacking it) when trying to view http://www.boardsmag.com/screeningroom/commercials/2183 I am getting the "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." message. I've "reinstalled" the mplayerplug-in using the packman site packman.rsync.zmi.at. about:plugins reports at the very top that mplayerplug-in is installed and that it handles Quicktime format. copied mplayerplug-in.so to my plugins directory - although that doesn't appear in current instructions on how to use the plugin... steve@steve:~> ls .mozilla/plugins flashplayer.xpt libflashplayer.so mplayerplug-in.so what am I missing? I seem to remember being able to view movie clips in the past, when using 9.3. Since the clean install of 10.0, I haven't actually used Firefox and mplayer + mplayerplug-in yet. Now my system still wants to use Firefox 1.0.7 - I've installed 1.5 in my home directory and run it from there. If I click on the boardsmag.com link, 1.0.7 opens and the same Additional plugins msg appears as with the 1.5 version, could this possibly be an issue? also, is there an recommended place to search the suse-linux-e archives? Just subscribed this week and haven't found a decent place to search them from yet. TIA for any help Steve
