USB to serial and camera

Hey Group; I have an older Olympus D-340R serial camera.. It works great. However, about everything is going to USB. So, I have a usb to serial device and the camera is not spotted due to the serial device being seen by hwinfo usb. Trying "hwinfo --camera" find nothing and as usual "--serial" is not offered by hwinfo. My problem is has anyone gotten a serial to USB to work. I do have gphoto2 available. What program would be used to view the pictures? MySQL Administrator won't launch on SuSE 9.2

Hi All, I thought I'd spend a little time today test driving MySQL Administrator after spotting the rpm at http://packman.links2linux.com I haven't experienced a problem with a packman package before, so I'm mystified as to whether or not the problem is _me_ or the package? Trying to launch it with the KDE menu entry produces the expected launch feedback but that just expires and the program never launches. When I try from the command line (as user, not root,) I get the following error message: (mysql-administrator-bin:9565): libglade-WARNING **: could not find glade file '/usr/share/mysql-gui/administrator/preferences.glade' /usr/bin/mysql-administrator: line 9: 9565 Aborted $MYPATH/mysql-administrator-bin The only "preferences.glade" the rpm supplied resides in /usr/share/mysql-gui/administratormake (not ../administrator) I tried the obvious and copied the file to ../administrator but that just resulted in a new error complaining that the installation might "possibly" be "corrupted." So, my dear fellow SuSE users... I've read the docs, Googled and poked around long enough without success. --> It's time to call in the "big guns" -- and I'm assuming you all know who you are ;-) Any and all suggestions/enlightenment will be gratefully entertained. thx! - Carl

Listing of Mozilla 1.4 folders under Local Folders

Hi, I have accumulated folders in my Mozilla 1.4 store of POP mail by creating a folder or sub-sub-folder for each new contact I have made via email. Given that this is circa 3 years old and is for my employment, it is a fairly large collection of folders and sub-folders of the agencies and companies whom I have contacted for work. The number of folders is substantial with 4-6 under each letter of the alphabet. As there are so many I would like to find out if there is a CLI way to query which Mozilla file in /home/hylton/.mozilla/ to generate a file of all the folder names in my Local Folders. Is this possible? Would Thunderbird support it? Ideas anyone? upgrading kernel via apt

I'm looking to upgrade my kernel and have apt operational. I'm using SuSE 9.0 and want to use apt to do the upgrade but am nervous that if anything goes wrong I wont be able to switch back. Is it possible to be able to add an additional kernel and be able to switch back to the original one if necessary and if so how do I do it? Phil

Problem with SuSE 9.2 and SATA

I have a very weird situation. I have a box that have two SATA drives. When I try to install SuSE 9.2 on it, it gets to partitioning the drives and then the installer just does not go any further. The disk light stays on. The machine does not freeze up or anything and there are not error messages in any of the terminals. Yast just get stuck. I have tried to disable the SATA in the BIOS and make all kinds of changes in the BIOS, but to no vail. I then installed SuSE 9.1 without any problems and then tried to do an upgrade from the 9.2 DVD. Yast gets to the point where it analyse the root partition and then it gets stuck there. Same thing, no error messages and the system id nog hanging, but the harddrive light stays on and Yast is stuck. I did not find any similar things by googling, only different SATA problems. Any idea what I can do? Hallo Liste, SW: Frische Installation von SLES9 64Bit mit allen Updates (auch SP1) vom 20.1.2005. HW: IA64 Architecture, ein DELL 1850-Server, über zwei Qlogic-HBAs QLA2342 mit einem SAN HP EVA3000 verbunden. Die HBA-Treiber funktionieren. Allerdings sieht das System keine Virtual Disks mit LUNs >= 8, wofür, wie ich vermute, das Modul scsi_mod verantwortlich ist. Ich habe die Parameters "max_luns=128" und "max_reported_luns=128" für "scsi_mod" sowohl in /etc/modprobe.conf.local als auch in /boot/grub/menu.lst eingetragen, das ändert aber nichts am Verhalten. scsi_mod, megaraid und reiserfs sind in /boot/initrd, aber auch ein "mkinitrd" nützt nichts. (Modules: kernel/drivers/scsi/scsi_mod.ko kernel/drivers/scsi/sd_mod.ko kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mm.ko kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.ko kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.ko extra/megaide.ko) Die qla2*-Module haben offenbar keine passenden Optionen (modinfo -p qla2xxx). Das HBA-BIOS konfiguriert die HBAs für 128 LUNs. /proc/cmdline enthält: root=/dev/sda6 max_luns=128 max_report_luns=128 vga=0x317 selinux=0 console=tty0 resume=/dev/sda2 elevator=cfq splash=silent Was kann/muss ich noch tun? -- Viele Grüße ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Behrens

samba-pdc ports ??

Hello, I've installed a samba-pdc server. I can't find my PDC fron a XP machine when samba and firewall are ON. If I turn my firewall off, so I can to see and to integrate my Windows machine on the domaine. After, if I need to use the resources, I can with my firewall ON. I don't understand this pount... So, somybody knows if I must open another specific diferent port than I have (137tcp, 137 udp, 139 tcp and 139 udp) when I put some machine on the domaine?
