9.2 update problem

Hi. No Sunday I tried an update on my laptop running 9.2 which failed at the installation stage the update included a kernel .11 I think. I tried again last night with the same results. I'm wondering if I have partial downloads that are stopping the update but need a hit as to where they would be located please. Regards Roger

SUSE 9.2 Installation

I just got my AMD 64 and tried to load SUSE 9.2. I started to pick all kinds of installation settings and started the isntall. I keep coming up with files not found e.g., libread-java. Do you think I am running into problems with the DVD drive or do I have to be more selective in loading the system up. The small isntallation seems to have install 64 bit versions but I want to load the system up for development. -- Joseph Loo jloo(a)acm.org

Help with new ATI drivers

Hi I've installed the new 8.8.25 ATI drivers via the SuSE rpms and compiled them according to the readme. I've done the sax2 stuff and everything seems to work OK bar one thing: if I run fglrxinfo I'm told that mesa is still in charge of glx, and if I start either fglrx gears or America's Army both refuse to work (in the case of America's Army, it simply says that glx won't load properly). Anyone know what to do? If I run fglrxconfig, I get a shiny new ATI-specced XF86Config-4 file which seems to have the correct parameters, but there are also .sax2save and .yast2 versions of XF86Config in the /etc/X11/ folder and I've no idea which one X is actually using or how to tell X which config file to use. Also, the readme says make sure that XF86Config contains "load dri" to enable 3d performance, which sounds a bit odd. I'm wondering whether this shouldn't be "load fglrx". There is also some stuff at the end of the readme about maybe needing to alter LD paths for glx. Alas, this is over my head and I don't understand it. Anyway, anyone got any tips? :) Fish

Root login runs YaST

Greetings from a newbie. Whenever I login as root, YaST automatically runs. When I quit YaST, it automatically logs out as root. It used to not do this, but started about a month ago. I'm running Suse Personal 9.1 with KDE. On the advice of Suse Tech support, I've tried: editing /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc to make sure that 'AllowRootLogin=true' I've made sure that DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager Anyone have any ideas? -------------------------------------- Protect yourself from spam, use http://sneakemail.com

Accessing Apache sub directories

I have a /home/user/datasheets linked in the /srv/www/apache/htdocs. When I try to access this, it comes up 404 forbidden. Permissions are for read only for Others and users, but still cannot access it. Tried a few changes in the http.conf file, but had no success. Can anyone tell me how I can access this directory from a webbrowser for viewing only? Art

[SLE] mkiso and mkisofs defaults

Apparently some references on the list to generating an ISO image have used "mkiso". After poking around I found in the SuSE distribution "mkisofs". After examining the MAN page for mkisofs it turns out to be a complicated command. The MAN page did not provide the DEFAULTS that some of the list examples seem to assume. QUESTION: Does anyone know the defaults for mkisofs? Hope someone does! Ted
