What I do is go into M$ and roughhly adjust the time using their control system. (I had to do it for daylight savings time.) Then I go back into Linux, and open up a link to an offiical time site (eg: http://www.time.gov/ ) and then set the time off the command line as root, eg: "date --set 14:55:25" the above will set the system time to 14:55:25; then I do: "hwclock --systohc" so that system time is copied to the cmos chip; and then do: "rm /etc/adjtime" (all w/o quotes) so time adjusting scripts don't think that the clock was slow or fast, and repeat the adjustment automatically on boot. This question is often asked. cannot open root device

My SuSE 8.2 system won't boot, giving the error message: VFS: Cannot open root device "hda3" on 03:03" Booting with the CD or a 7.3 system on another drive, I can mount /dev/hda3 and it looks fine. Everything except the boot partition (hda1) is reiser, and it seems to be finding the boot partition. I tried "boot=/dev/hda3" with the same result. A power failure took the system down. It has been running for over a year and has rebooted successfully many times. I did not change anything recently. (i.e. no new kernel, etc.) The hda3 partition is certainly there, as I can mount it if I boot 7.3 system, but I don't really have any experience with reiser filesystems, so I don't know what to do. I ran fsck.reiserfs (or whatever its name is) off of the intallation CD. It did consistency checks in read-only mode and did not complain about anything. I'm stumped. wvdial --> NO ANSWER

Dear all, I am trying to configure my modem card corrctly on my SONY VAIO with SUSE 9.0. After set up of the card with smartlink and configuring the device with winconfig, I have tried to connect to my ISP, but I had bad response, that was NO ANSWER I had the accuracy to use X3 parameter, that could be right for skipping dialtone waiting (in Italy there is no long and continous dialtone before dialing the number). Is there someone who could provide me info about solving this bug?? Hacked?

OS: SuSE 9.0 This is a new FTP installation updated via YOU. During the install, one non-root user was created and used successfully for about a week. First sign of trouble: we couldn't login with error indicating an incorrect password. AS root we reset the password and can now login on a character screen but when logging in under KDE, receive the following error: There was an error setting up inter-process communications with KDE. The message returned by the system was: Could not read network connection list /home/<user>/.DCOPserver_HBADMIN_0 Please check that the dcopserver program is running. A quick check of running processes shows no such process. The KDE login fails and returns to a login screen. All other users can login just fine. Further, we tried removing this use and his home directory along with all files/subdirectories but were unable to even list the following dirctories: cannot access /home/<user>/.qt (permission denied) cannot access /home/<user>/.kde (permission denied) cannot access /home/<user>/.wine (permission denied) cannot access /home/<user>/Desktop (permission denied) even as root. Could this system have been hacked or compromised in some way? (How would I go about checking this?) If so, what should we do about it? (I did enable SuSEfirewall2 closing all ports to the outside world.) Thank you, Lucky Leavell

SuSE 9.1 and YaST License

Hi, Anyone knows if SuSE have changed YaST license to GPL for 9.1 version? Till v 9.0 it was prohibited to redistribute YaST on any media carreer including ISO images on ftp. However, I am need to build a custom installation which is distributable via ftp as ISO images, not just separate files. Radeon 8500 and 3D?

I have been searching the list archive to find a solution for my problem. Enabling 3D in sax2 doesn't work. I see in several messages that this has been discussed a lot so I would only like to ask if my understanding of all this is correct. Am I correct in the following? 1. 3D will not work with SuSE 9.0 out of the box? 2. I need ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/ATI/suse90/fglrx/3… to get this working? 3. issues are as stated in README from item 2? Damon Register

Mozilla update

Hi everybody. Has enyone else encountered a problem with the most recent security update to Mozilla-1.4 which causes Mozilla to become unlaunchable? Specifically, I've found that if I replace mozilla-1.4-72(from DVD) with mozilla-1.4.1-12(via YOU) to fix the buffer overflow in the S/MIME code of Mozilla, the application becomes unlaunchable - no error, just doesn't start. Printing problem

The Print Manager is showing a lightening bolt in the Job ID column. The 'State' of the job is: processing, the IPP report says the job is printing but the job is not printing. What does the lightening bolt mean? How do I correct it?
