What DVD burner should I buy?

Another kde3.2 upgrade problem

Hello SuSE people, Since my upgrade to 3.2.1 I am having problems with kooka. Appears that it is not working with the upgrade. Part of a package named kdegraphics3-scan which is held back by apt. Following is message received from apt when trying to install kdegraphics3-scan: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- linux:/ # apt-get install kdegraphics3-scan Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: kdegraphics3-scan: Depends: ocrad but it is not installable Depends: libexif.so.9 but it is not installable E: Broken packages linux:/ # ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then I tried a dist-upgrade and the kdegraphics3-scan package was again held back. mounting floppy very slow in suse 9.0

ever since I installed suse 9, mounting my floppy take much more time that it did in 8.2. It will mount, just very slow--it just seems to read and read the disk. Second SuSE HDD No Access

I have just powered up a newly assembled ATX box with a cleanly formatted and SUSE 9 Pro loaded 20g Quantum Fireball Plus LM20.5 HDD as Master and a much-used Maxtor 6E040l0 40g HDD as Slave. The Quantum is seen in YaST as hda1, etc., the Maxtor hdb1, etc. I have tried to set up a desktop icon for the Maxtor but get an "in use" error. I have tried to look at the Maxtor from Konq to no avail. I do notice that the Grub device map only shows hd0 and fd0 but fail to understand why YaST would see both HDD's even though Grub appears to see only one (not to mention that the Grub device map fails to list either the CD reader or the cdrw device. Can someone explain these anomalies, and the solution to getting Konq to see my second HDD, please? I could reverse the cables and the jumpers on the two HDD's and see what happens but I really should be able to see them in either order and access the Maxtor from SuSE 9 Pro booted off the Quantum. Given that the Quantum is a clean load of SuSE 9 Pro and the Maxtor was set up on an older box I think that the Quantum should be my Master HDD. -- dmc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your journey with God continues here ... faks on linux

Hi, I am using suse 9.0 on workstation via suse 9.0 gateway to internet. Is there an application that you can send a fax created on your pc directly to a recipient fax machine? Even better does a application excist to send and receive faxes on your pc? Can this be done via the gateway as above? If so which pc will take the call and fax? Vsftp and anonymus login

I have installed the VSFTP and i have comment all the anonymus section. However searching the vsftp.log i discovered that some ip tried and logon to my system as USER anonymus with no password and USER ftp with no password. However, these accounts leads to nowhere with no right, it quite dangerous for me. Please i want your help to harden my security. Thanks in advance.

[suse-xfree86] Blank screen w/GEForce FX 5200 AGP

SuSE 9.0 AMD ?? Soyo ?? 17 inch LCD GeForce FX 5200 AGP A friend's tnt video card fried (fan) and we replaced it with a 128M GeForce FX 5200 AGP. Ran the nvidia updater (5336), followed directions (root) sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run sax2 -m 0=nvidia text screen changed to X and blank screen (black). edited /etc/X11/XF86Config, nvidia changed to nv init 5 -> blank screen (black) Ran nvidia updater (4496) with same results. note: With the previous tnt card, the 5336 ver would not work (blank screen) but the 4496 would (w/o 3d, nv not nvidia driver). Changed driver to nv (SuSE original). Same blank screen in X. I know not where to turn. Making a copy/backup of certain files and directories

I have a system with 2 HDD's, namely a 20Gb and a 7.5Gb HDD. What I would like to do is copy an exact replica of /home and /etc and all of their contents from the 20Gb to the 7.5Gb. What I have tried so far is to do it via Konqueror ie right click on /home, left click on copy, left click on /data4(this is the other drive), right click, left click paste. The system seems to copy all the files but I have noticed that the directory count on what files have been read and what files have been written is different. I thought this was just a quirk of the X session not being updated quick enough or that the complete replica had actually failed. Not liking the 'replica failed' idea, I decided to rather try the copy process from the command line (cli). I used the command #:cp -R -v /home /data4/home The system went crazy for a few minutes whilst it copied 1Gb of data and all seemed to work. I have now decided NOT to use the -v switch but would like to know if there is some way I could get a progress indicator/bar in the cli? Are there any other switches which could be added to further enhance the cp? How about using the --b switch? What about the file permissions, as I see there are 6 files owned by root in my /home ie /lost+found? I would like to copy the /home directory across with a normal user but I am worried about the root owned files in the directory. For the /etc directory I know I am going to have to use root as although the files are marked as read there is no write permission.
