Hi, While trying to make a usable CD burning sys for my 9.2 I have learned many things. The key to making K3b a usable solution still eludes me, but the failure msg actually asked me to send detailed feedback to a SUSE developer who has modified 'cdrecord' and he asks that we not bother the actual developer. OK, awaiting some more info ... Burnatonce for XP is a good, solid and intuitively easy solution. So, we have something to shoot for. I found a DVD-RW writer that is Dual-Layer writing capable for $60 at MicroCenter. But Dual-Layer media is $8 a platter at the cheapest place I have found. So far I have written CDs of the 9.2 set easily. Fast too, 2.5 min from iso image. Haven't tried DVDs yet. I got NERO with the writer, so I tried it out with the SUSE 9.2 CD1 and NERO immediately went to the I-Net (thanks Zonealarm) and it reported "Source Copyrighted - Writing aborted" No wonder that there are no Script-Kiddies selling copies of SUSE 9.2 on eBay anymore. Bravo SUSE-Novell! M$ media player checks home, too. DVD RW media is getting very cheap; all but Dual-Layer. I just can't bring myself to experiment on $8 media. I found a USB 2.0 external HD at FRYs for $60 after rebate (boy oh boy the arrival of SATA drives is going to flood the market with ATA drives). My 9.2 is on a USB 2.0 MB. When I plugged the drive into the USB socket, SUSE performed flawlessly. Fast too. YASTs H/W report shows the drive as a WD 7,200 rpm, 160MB stndrd cache drive manufactured in Oct 2004. I am seriously considering an ordinary data copy of non-compressed data; perhaps via rsync in cron. Now if I can only get K3b to use my burner. I sees it w/o ide-scsi at boot time. K3b correctly reports the burners features. but cdrecord refuses to run it. Best to all. ................... PeterB

After install your rpms, I have a deps problem I seem that you forget to upload to (http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/usr-local-bin/9.1/) the package papaya-plugins-0.97.20041014-100.SuSE.ulb.1.i586.rpm By other way, I see in yours TODO list, "vino". I hope it will be soon Thanks for ULB!!

Where is calendar information stored on Suse Email?

Hello, I'm trying to migrate people from Suse Mail to Open Exchange. I'm trying to find out where Suse Mail stores personal calendar information so that I can migrate the data over to our Open Exchange server. It is in LDAP? I can't find anything in the suse-email-server.schema file that points to calendar information. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Braun Brelin

Formatting smart card

Hi gang, Well, I figured out how to get my card reader to work, now the thing is to figure out how to format the card. It's a 128MB smart card, and when I try to format it to FAT16 in YaST partitioner, it always comes up FAT32. I've messed with the options and it still makes it FAT32. Is there another way? Man fdisk left me as confused as I'd be if it had been written in Chinese, heh. Thanks, John

K3b and cdrecord has me confused...

Hi Guys, Now that I can burn CDs and DVDs on 9.2 on ATAPI drives w/o any ide-scsi emulation, I have learned enough to be confused and dangerous :o) It seems that SUSE is using a vers of 'cdrecord' that they have modified in-house. The debugging info tells us that , and asks users to send reports to SUSE-feedback and not to the author. Anyone have any details as to what and why they have done that? While attempting to write to a DVD-R blank, SUSEs cdrecord msgs stated that they do not do DVD-R, and that a license key is needed. Hmmmm. This got me to thinking that I don't know enough about what the DVD alphabet actually mean. DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW DVD+DL DVD-RAM I know that DVD-RAM in action is just like a slow small HD, but ablut the others I just don't know enough to understand which is better or worse for what. Anyone have any good links? I see some of you refer to XCDRoast, but there is no pkg on the install DVDs for 9.2 and Packman's latest rpm is for 9.0 Whats up with that? [SLE] how to create > 2 TB volume

PRODUCT: SUSE Linux i386 9.2 Professional I think the 'subject' says it all. I have four 1.6 terabyte 'drives' which I need to combine into one logical volume. I know how to use both software RAID & LVM 2 , but neither of them are working here. I assume something needs to be done to the kernel? Using software RAID to combine these partitions, whenever I try to format (mkfs), it goes out to lunch. With LVM, the format appears to work OK. When copying files to it, after ~5 GB , the partition becomes read-only !?! I have tried both Reiser & EXT3 filesystems. Thanks.

SOT: 8.2 file sizes

My 8.2 (about to be 9.2) desktop is the only box I have with enough space for DVD images. Is there a filesystem, kernel, and FTP program available for 8.2 that can handle > 2GB files? TIA, Jeffrey

Hi there, I'm running 9.2 for a month now and no real problems... Except for one thing. After boot, the network is not available while there are no errors during boot. After issu'ing /etc/init.d/network restart the network is available. When the script brings eth0 down, there is a line saying "eth0 does not exist". When I run it the second time, there is the same message stating that device lo doesn't exist..... Hm... Like I said, no real problems, just some annoyance. In the boot.msg there are lines: <4>eth0: 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940) done eth0 device: 3Com Corporation 3c940 10/100/1000Base-T [Marvell] (rev 12) eth0 configuration: eth-id-00:0c:6e:60:c6:54 eth0 IP address: 192.168.0.4/24 and it looks like no problem. Except for the fact that it doesn't work directly.
