Suse 9.1. and USB sound Creative Sound Blaster MP3+

Hi, I've got USB Sound Blaster MP3+. Reading all the docs it should work under linux and alsa. But I can not make it work with Suse 9.1 After I plug it, it is listed in plugger under Unknown as Creative USB Audio. I can see it in Hardware Info as well (under USB section). There is dmesg output which shows that the device is recognized. But, it is not listed in yast2 sound, and it is not configured. There is no sound as well. Does someone have a clue whats going on and how to make it work? Bellow is the releveant information from Hardware Info and dmesg. Any help will be highly appreciated. As much as I love SuSE, I would be wary that ANY company would take over the world. SuSE is my favorite linux distribution, right up there with Debian. If I could, I would have bought stock in it but it wasn't publicly traded (at the time), contrarily to Red Hat, which was listed on the stock exchanges. I'm wary of a trait of the human psyche: the tendency to put all his/her eggs in the same basket and to play it safe. After all, that's how monopolies are born. Even though I love KDE, I still would fund Gnome just to keep an alternative going.

Firefox 1.0 Install

I downloaded and thought I installed Firefox 1.0 correctly. Anyway, I unzipped the tarball and ran the installer with no problem. It installed the firefox-installer into my home directory. I click on the "Firefox" icon (the icon looks like a piece of paper instead of the regular Firefox icon)and the "Run or Display" window appears. I have to choose "Run" in order to launch Firefox. I would just like to have the icon on my desktop and be able to click it but i can't seem to make it happen. Any help would be appreciated. I'm running 9.1 pro. Thanks as always

libnscd and libzio libraries

Hi again, I'm trying to build the qemu-0.6.0-3 binary package from the SuSE 9.2 qemu-0.6.0-3.src.rpm source package into SuSE 9.1. After solving most of the dependencies, i get here: TWPT035001:/usr/src/packages/SPECS # rpmbuild -bb qemu.spec error: Failed build dependencies: libnscd is needed by qemu-0.6.0-3 libzio is needed by qemu-0.6.0-3 so i downloaded the source packages libnscd-1.0-2.src.rpm and libzio-0.1-4.src.rpm, and tried to build the binary packages. SuSE with apt and yast

Hi all, I'm a big fan of SuSE, and have addict to it since suse 8.1. In these days i always use Yast to maintain my computers and production servers, including install and upgrade aplications. Right now i'd like to try apt (http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ ) in my computers, but i still dont know what kind of problem that might come with it. If I use apt, do I still need to use YOU in Yast to update ? What if I want to install application from CD, will it problem ? Should I switch to apt instead of yast ? Any input will be appreciate.. C header files

I'm installing vmware-tools and the install is looking for the C header files. It is looking in /usr/src/linux/include. I receive an error telling me the directory does not exist. Could someone please tell me where the C header files are located? Thanks

Compare Mozilla and Firefox

In favour of Mozilla (1.7.3): 1- You can see all the plugins, their versions, and status. While with Firefox, You neither can see all the installed plugins (e.g. Java), nor their versions! 2- I found Mozilla is now very stable, Firefox suffers many crashes! 3- "Home Page", "Navigator Startup Page", "New Window Page", and "New Tab Page" are all independently adjustable with Mozilla and this is very useful (e.g. we can set all to "blank" but "Home Page" to "mail.yahoo.com"). 4- "download manager" in Firefox has nothing more than it in Mozilla (no resume for later); The case here is that Mozilla has "progress dialog" which is sometimes preferred, while, it doesn't exist in Firefox! 5- Mozilla has a "composer": very useful tool. 6- With Firefox, type inside a *single row* text-box (like the address-box of Yahoo Mail) until it becomes full. Now, type one more character: What do you see?!! (A horizontal scroll-bar makes it unavailable!) A great bug that there wasn't with Mozilla. In favour of Firefox (1.0): 1- When opening a new tab, Firefox doesn't jump onto it (very nice, like Konqueror). 2- Key-strokes for www...org and www...net is added. 3- Web-page saving corrected(?) 4- I use to download mozilla from mozilla.org and keep it for installation inside any distribution I have, not to download distro-specific rpms. By doing so, only the first window of mozilla opens and the next ones ask me for creating a new profile! (why?) I had this problem with any version of Mozilla came out and with both RedHat and SuSE. I solved this issue by editing the shell-script of old rpm package and redirecting it to run the new version installed. With Firefox, there is no more such problem. If a more complete list be created and confirmed, we can send to mozilla community for asking improvement for both Mozilla and Firefox. Mozilla (and Firefox) are best instances of cross-platform products, since their high speed, very low memory consumption, wide compatibility, excellent graphical setup, while totally open-source and free. posting to the list AND CC: to others

Why am I seeing so many more people here that send a message to the list requesting help, get an answer which was sent to the list and then reply to that AND Cc: the person as well? If you must "reply to all" because you have no "reply to list" button edit the To: line so you only send to the list. It does not take that much effort. What do you think happens when you send to the list that the person who addressed the message won't get a copy unless you Cc: them as well?
