Hi, Anyone knows how to build KNOPPIX-like SuSE Live CD with on-the-fly compression from EXISTING installation, with the option to re-install it as-is on the new hard drive? If someone did this please be so kind to share your wise experience. PCI - ADSL Configuration

Hi there could anyone help me on configuring a PCi ADSL adapter on SuSE 9.1 professional ? The board has a chipset by Conexant, and Suse recognize the adapter as "Conexant AccessRunner PCI ADSL Interface Device". I tried to downolad drivers from Linuxant web site and I would now recompile the kernel ... but I don't know if it is a right way to proceed. Thanks :) Carlo

(SuSE 9.1) 1- When a file with all-uppercase letters (e.g. README) is saved on a vfat file system, it is shown as all-lowercase letters (i.e. readme). 2- You know that in konqueror, we can select a number of files by drawing a rectangle around them; But, by drawing another rectangle around some of selected files, they should go out of selection; This is true for nautilus but false for konqueror. 3- In both nautilus and konqueror, file-types are often recognized correctly only when the file extension be missing; When a file has an extension, unexpected answers appear. Question is: If these file-browsers detect the file-format from its content, why are they deceived by extension? Generally, gnome detects file-types better than KDE, e.g. examine some MPEG files with .dat extension. 4- In DOS, we can search for files inside a directory and all its sub-directories with "/s" switch in "dir" command; For example: dir *.sys c:\windows /s Why can't similar operation be done with "ls" in linux? limiting bandwidth

Hi All, How do you split you're bandwidth say you have 10mbit and you want to split to certain mac or ip addresses? Say you want to give a ip or mac address 5mbit insted of 10mbit.I would like to do it with iptables is this possible, thanks? If it is not possible how can i do this? Error with wxGTK app (Audacity) not loading

Greetings, I am a semi-newbie :) and I am trying to install Audacity 1.22 (the latest stable version available on SuSE's 9.1 APT repository (gwdg.de). It install wxGTK as a dependency, and everything seems ok. However, when I try to run it, it displays a GTK dialog box asking me which language to use, I select English and click OK. The following message appears on the konsole window: audacity: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2-2.4.so.0: undefined symbol: _gtk_accel_group_attach Suspecting some incompatibility in the packaged versions, I downloaded the tarball from audacity.sourceforge.net and tried compiling form source. During ./configure, I get: configure: error: "Could not find wx-config: is wxWindows installed? is wx-config in your path?" And indeed I could not find it on my system. I tried installing wx*everything either via YaST and APT and both messages remain the same. I also tried to install the oldest version (1.2.0) and the error remains. Any clues? I have SuSE 9.1 with KDE 3.3.1 and most patches from gwdg.de (including usr-local-bin, packman, suse-people, suse-projects) Thanks a lot.

I found a link from the german site suse.de: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/live-cd-9.2/ and I downloading it now it is very...very slow.. but it is working. Slow USB external HD

Hello With 9.1, my external USB harddisk (usb1) is very slow. With the SuSE 8.2 (without submount) I had a transfer rate of about 800 kB/sec... Now the transfer rate is about 160 kB/sec... Did you have an idea which parameter I can set to speed up this *%@&% disk ? I've tried (naively) to see what hdparm said, but it does not seems to be the solution (hdparm does not like /dev/sdb disks ?) Thank you very much for your help
