OT: What Perl Modules are installed?

Hello all, how do you test to see what perl modules are installed? Is there a quick command that does this for Perl? Something like how we can do "rpm -qa" to see all rpm's installed... many thanks, Ahbaid

Unofficial SuSEFAQ project needs your help

Hi everyone, As the subject header says the project needs your help in adding new content. While I am still unpacking the big part is finished and I can play with my projects again. However, while I was away SuSE 9.0 came lots of new comers joined etc. etc . As a result I was not able to follow the current threads since October and that is in a few days two months time. So I need FAQ entries the question and the answer just in simple text format (yes putting url links so that I can follow the thread will help) Any mini howto's are also welcomed send it to my direct attention note: my mail server does not like spam at all so make sure you have your reverse address delegated. No CD sound with SUSE 9.0

I did a standard install with SUSE 9.0 on my computer. I have a Creative SB Live!Value sound card. YAST detects my sound card as "CT4832 SBLive! Value" and when, in the sound configuration dialog, I test the volume, I can hear the music. But I do not hear the sound associated with events in GNOME (of course after having started the sound server) and when I play a CD with xmms, again no sound. In the startup sequence of the computer, I see - start sound driver: emu10K1 - restoring previous sound settings Can somebody suggest how to proceed? Thanks in advance, Karel De Vriendt

Can anyone recommend a backup program/script for home user?

I was just about to setup a raid 1 when I realized I didn't want to really accomplish that. What I want is something to backup my system incase I fubar something. So, rather than dd my drive every night, I'm wondering how I can backup my system where only the changed files get backed up rather than the whole drive. I looked at rsync but I'm not sure if that's what I want. Any advice? Tom

fetchmail

Hi, Where is fetchmail home page? There is a project page at sourceforge, which is empty. On /usr/share/doc/packages/fetchmail/FAQ it says the home page is "http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/fetchmail". This doesn't exist either, it drops me at "http://www.tuxedo.org/" instead. Talking of sourceforge... when I go there, depending on which ISP I use, I see this error: |Not Found |The requested URL |/your_machine_has_been_blocked_by_sourceforge.net_due_to_heavy_volume was |not found on this server. | |Apache/1.3.27 Server at nimrodel.valinor Port 80 Any body knows anything about that? realplayer init config screens garbled

After installing the realplayer linux rpm from the link at the real.com site, when I invoke the player, it presents a configuration screen, which seems reasonable after a first-time install. Trouble is, the config screen is full of little square boxes where the text should be. The player itself, visible briefly behind the config boxes, seems to have normal fonts, text, etc. Without the config process, I can't get the player to do anything. I have LANG=en_US, and all my other apps seem to work fine. There's no mention of this problem in the installed help docs, or on the tech support section of the real.com site. I thought I'd ask here for experiences before poking around, as I don't have any good ideas of where to start. I notice a very extensive "known issues" file for the Linux version, and I wonder if everyone goes through a long process of fixing some of those issues, many of which seem to be missing links, or files not copied. Or is there a less-buggy version of realplayer out there that I should be looking at? Do people have better luck with the tarball? Or is there something else more Linux-native that I should be looking at to do what realplayer is supposed to do, in my case, listening to streaming audio from various sites? All the links I've seen seem to be either M$ or realaudio. Here's my setup: SuSE 7.3 distro, with KDE 2-something/Qt2, X11-3.3.6, kernel upgraded to 2.4.23, Intel P-II. I installed the realplayer rpm as root, fwiw. I can supply more config info if it'd make sense; at this point, I'm just poking around in the dark. TIA, Jim

apache2 and pdf mime type

Hi, I'm having problems with configuring apache2 under SuSE 9.0 to work correctly with some web browsers (including MSIE 6.0) when trying to retrieve .pdf files. Apparently, the mime-type definition application/pdf used by apache's module differs from the one used by the browser - in the apache's log file I can see that the server responds with code 206 (why partal download?) and the browser complains that the file doesn't start with a valid .pdf magic string, i.e. %PDF-. Apache 2 & virtual domains shows only one site for all addresses

I thought I have solved it, but .... I have added all modules to /etc/sysconfig/apache2 to use %0, but it does not help. I moved back to SuSE suggestion including vhost_alias. I have made according the ../vhosts.d/vhost.template some copies of my domains. (only replacing dummy-host.example.com with my website names and saved the file with the name of the web site followed by ".conf" First only three and restarted apache2: All sites show only one site, independent how I call it out of the three site.conf files I added two more and get than during startup a message: ... [warn] _default_ VirtualHost overlap on port 80, the first has precedence Any hints please! I am exhausted! bye Ronald

VNC (again ?)

Hi, I'm trying to setup VNC so I can remotely administer a "appliance-box" (= no screen, no keyboard, no mouse). I have it running partly, but I can't setup the last piece. If I'm logged in at the appliance (screen, keyboard & mouse still connected) I can connect, and everything works fine. When I'm not logged in, and I try to connect all I get is a blank X-screen, nothing to log in. What do I have to setup to get a login screen ? Any pointers ? I'm running SuSE 9. TIA. B.T.W.
