installing 2.2 kernel on SuSE8.X, not working

I compiled a 2.2.19 kernel with ext3 patch. It starts the kernel, mounts the ext3 root partition successfully and then gives me an error during INIT: FATAL: kernel too old The reason for all of this is that there are drivers for CAN pcmcia cards that work only in 2.2. Thanks Nathan

Error running lmule in SuSE 8.2

I just installed SuSE 8.2 and edonkey 0.49.4. edonkey works fine but I did not like the java GUI so I would like to give lmule a try instead. I installed lmule-1.2.1-1.SuSE81.i386.rpm without any problems via YaST but when I type lmule in a shell window I receive the following error: lmule: Symbol `_ZTV10wxTextCtrl' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking Initialising eMule Segmentation fault Searching for this problem gives me threads in non-english suse mailing lists but google's translation isn't enough to help me. New Netscape on SuSE 8.2

Hi All, I just d/l'd and installed Netscape 7.1 and I'm impressed. This has to be the easiest most trouble free install yet from Netscape. It is full featured, including AIM that has all the AIM features from the AOL world. 'Nother Jpilot question

I was following and trying many of the earlier suggestions to get jpilot to sync but have been unsuccessful. It previously worked for me with 8.0, jpilot 0.99 and a serial sync. I now am using a Palm Zire71 with USB cradle and cannot seem to get USB connection to work. Lsmod tells me that "usbcore" and "usb-ochi" modules are loaded, tail -f (from earlier suggestions) tells me that response to "usb-agent" is ...no USB modules for product 830/60/100. I found no reference to Zire or Zire 71 at the SuSE FAQ list or hardware DB. I did make some changes to files, following directions on SuSE FAQ for getting USB to work but have seen no change: sync seems not to establish comm with Zire and jpilot fails with message, "pi_bind invalid argument Check your serial port and settings exiting with status -10" I am a little lost about where to go from here or what to try next. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Richard

Alcatel Speedtouch USB connection problem

After following the instructions posted in the April archives(/2003-Apr/2063.html) I am still struggling to get an internet connection. I've downloaded the appropriate file speedmgmt.tar.gz, compiled it in /usr/src and followed the instructions as posted on http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/configSpeedTouch.html I get no error messages but when I do the final configuration using the YaST control center, DSL configuration I'm uncertain to what options/configurations I should use. I've made sure I have used the correct VPI/VCI (0.38 for BT) and set the PPP mode to PPP over ATM but still no luck. It complains about unknown host. I've searched throughout various postings and discussion groups with http://metalicom.demon.co.uk/downloads/ADSL/SpeedTouch-HOWTO-en.html being mentioned a few times however since I'm new to Linux and since it talks about Kernel configuration I'm reluctant to try it especially if I'm missing something obvious. Technical Question about CUPS, LPRing

I need to find out what the difference is among the various options for printer setups. I run a simple, single-user setup. The default seems to be CUPS Foomatic database. Problems compiling Cheops-NG

Just downloaded the latest source for Cheops-NG and when I run ./configure I get the following error === checking for gnome-config... no checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install === The message is actually correct there is no gnomeConf.sh anywhere on the system. BTW I just installed GNome (all files under the group tree). I even went to the search screen of YAST Install and entered *gnomeConf* as my search string and selected all under "Search in" to see if this script is provided by some other package.
