Screen Size change

By whatever choice I made while installing I only have a 640x480 screen size. While reading text is easy getting to the Ok and Cancel buttons are quite a task. How do I change the screen resolution in SuSE 8.2? The CTRL + ALT -/+ doesnt work. Thanks WR

Problem with Perl Berkeley DB?

Hello all: I am trying to run a Cyrus Admin tool that requires the use of Berkeley DB files I believe. When I run a perl script I get an error indicating that "db_version()" is unresolved. Some research has led me to the possibility that I may have two versions of Berkeley DB installed... one that supports db_version() and one that doesn't. And of course the references to the libraries that the system has set up must point to the version that doesn't db_version. Anyways, its suggested that there is a way to compile ( configure.in ) applications and set some LIB dir etc to use the correct version. Couple questions.. 1- How do I know which versions of the Perl interface Berkeley DB I have installed and where they live? 2- Is this likely an issue not with the Perl interface but with the version of the actual BerkeleyDB libraries that I am running. Migrating users/passwords info from one Linux box to another

Hi, I am need to replace old e-mail server with new one, and somehow migrate user accounts (including passwords) from old machine to the new one. I am thinking about using YP server for this purpose. May be anyone knows better and simpler solution? rpc.statd & suse 8.2

Whenever I try to log into an 8.2 machine in gnome it complains about a lock error with nfs. To fix it I just start rpc.statd and then log in. But is there a way to get around this? I tried adding rpc.statd to /etc/rc.d/boot.local, but that didn't help, I dunno why, because that should just start the deamon when the mahcine loads.

Testing Raid1 set-up: Failed hard disk

Dear experts, in order to simulate a drive failure in our environment running SLES 8 with Raid1 for the system disk (set-up via Yast2) we - plugged out one drive - shutdown the system ====> system is hanging - power off + booting ====> system is hanging during fsck cycle - power off + reconnection of the former disk =====> system came up successfully Any help, tips for a proper handling of this scenario are welcome especially if we have to insert a "new" disk! USB problems (usb stick) with 8.2

Hi, I have a problem with a USB stick. Whenever I plug the stick in, the stick is noticed, the correct modules are loaded (usb-storage), but when I try to mount the device (/dev/sda1) it hangs. Strange thing is that after a fews times retrying it works... And on a 7.3 machine it works perfectly! [SLE] Error compiling kernel update for 8.2

These sources are dated june 18th. Did someone tried to compile them ? I get a fatal error inh module hdlc.c with a message looking like : "incomplete file hdlc.c". Can you tell me why there are no new kernel from Mantel from april 2003 ? Thanks for reply. Catimimi.

MD5 and shadow for a soft migration

Hello List, Sorry for the crosspost, but I got no anserwer on the security list. Any ideas here? I'm using shadow for auth on my SuSE 7.2pro. Now some modules need md5. Is it possible to use MD5 and shadow parallel on one system? I think something like following should run? sufficent md5-module (don't know which module) required shadow (don't know which module) Here should be a md5 password enought to auth to the system, else the shadow will be used. Is it possible? If so are there any security concerns? Which module should I use?
