DHCP Conf...sorry about the length

I am not aware if this issue has been addressed yet - as i could not find anything in the archies i doubt it. I am running SuSE 8.2 on a machien that has direct access to the internet, i want to share this net connection to a windows machine - when i disable the network on the windows machine then re-enable it, it says - 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Assigned by DHCP then it refreshes and automatically assigns itself a windows address. How do i set up the DHCP conf file to set the windows IP address to work off: 192.168.0.x ???? And then how do i share the net connection through DHCP to windows?? I could do it in Mandrake 9.0/9.1 and Lycoris Desktop L/X (Amethyst) - But SuSE does not seem to have a config tool like the others. There are no problems with my network conenctions, but does a hub have to support IP address assigning (DHCP) to assign them? all i have is 4 computers (only 2 hooked up roght now) connected through a standard 4 port hub - using CAT-5 network cable..... I get "stty: standard input: inappropriate ioctl for device" when apache is started. Can anyone tell me what this means? Art

How is that? Thank you for all the replies. I'll reply to all of them together, to make it a little easier: On SuSE 8.2 Pro I use fetchmail to pick up the mail from the POP3 servers. The line in .fetchmailrc looks like this: poll "pop.ananzi.co.za" protocol POP3 : user "user" there with password "password" is "hans" here ; Then Sendmail (I assume) puts in my /var/mail/hans directory, and I have a feeling this is where things screw up. I didn't do anything to sendmail, just selected it when I installed, and let it go about it's business. I might try postfix to see if it changes it. So far I run fetchmail from commandline by simply invoking "fetchmail" so that I can see when it's finished and I can hang up. Then I fire up Evolution to grab the mails from my /var/mail/hans directory. I have used both the mail command and gkrellm to see how many mails are in the my local mailbox. Fetchmail's output shows there is say 7 mails, downloads and flushes them, and then a few moments later gkrellm would show me theres 10 mails. Sure enough, a few of them would be duplicated. The idea is to get spamassassin running eventually, but I would first like to get the mail fetching and local delivery smoothed out. Fwiw, I don't leave any mails on the server or in my local box. Just download them and delete immediately. Thanks Hans

Unusual behavior with SuSE 8.0

Hello everyone, I have some really unusual things happening with my server since last Sunday. I can no longer SMTP out to most addresses. I can't even telnet to these addresses via port 25. I don't know if it's my ISP (Symptico) or if it's my SuSE. If I try to telnet to a server via port 25, I get a no route to host. The system does get the proper address through DNS translation, but it fails. Any help, anyone? Thanks, Don -- http://slovakia.homeip.net

8.2 boot.iso doesn't connect to network

Hi ! I'm trying to install suse 8.2 over ftp on a test machine. I cannot get it connecting to any ftp server. The machine is currently running e-smith fine with the network settings and I can ping ftp.suse.com (also tried some mirrors) I tried setting it up with the "install=ftp://...." option as well as with the manual installation (loading network module eepro100 and then selecting ftp install and entering all the network parameters) Does anyone have an idea how to diagnose that problem further, like anything I should look on any console? Hi. I'm running SuSE 8.2 now. Once there were one that helped me getting my path to Mozilla to work very easy. As far as I remember the Mozilla bin was placed into /usr/local/bin, and the work with placing it there was done using Konqueror, with it set on split screen. I have just tried it again, but had no luck. I marked the /opt/mozilla/mozilla binary, and would link it to /usr/local/bin. I then got an error "Could not create symlink /usr/local/bin/mozilla. Please check permissions. What permissions does it refer to, and how should the permission be ?
