hi all, I got a trouble when installing SuSe 7.0, after set disk partition and the instalation begin to check my disks , I got message error something like "..... unsupported disk label ... thumber and SuSE 8.2

I'm trying to get thumber to compile under SuSE 8.2 and it fails. I made sure by looking at the readme that I had what it said it needed to compile. It needed qt3,qmake, and a c++ compiler. I was just curious if anyone has got this thing to compile? If so how? If you need the errors, I can post them but there is quite a few. saving yast2:software-selection to disk possible?

Restoring a backup from tape using CPIO?

Hi, We back up every night to a DDS2 tape with the command cpio -ocvB -O /dev/st0. Unfortunetely we use samba shares and some of the users have created directories with spaces in the folder name, now I know linux doesn't like this and now seems to be giving a problem when trying to restore the directory which has become corrupt. Can anybody help? The command I am using to try and read the contents back in is: cpio -icvt -I /dev/st0 "/home/it-temp", I even tried with the /* on the end but it keeps coming up saying "skipped ***** bytes of junk, where ***** is the number of bytes skipped! The contents of the backup are on the tape, I have verified this. Please help someone, I am in real trouble! Regards Damian Buckley

how to set up network connection

hi i am newbie to suse.i use sles7(suse linux enterprise edition) i want to share my directories and reach other directories in the network. in the network there is a kyocere mita fs1000+ (ip-running) printer. and hp printer owned by a xp machine. how can i do these tasks i tried to setup printer with yast2 but there is no selection suitable with my kyocera. i need suggestions. best regards

Try 'insmod -f'. With insmod the 'force' option works... DMA for DVD/CD on Toshiba Satellite 1135-S156 problem under 8.2

DMA works for the hard disk just fine. When I activate it for the DVD it works, too - Xine is happy, no jerks in the playback... BUT it kills my network interfaces!!! Both internal ethernet, AND PCMCIA wifi no longer works with DMA turned on for the DVD. Both interfaces work just fine with just the hard disk enabled. Anyone got a clue?

Can unplugging a NIC be detected in /proc ?

I wonder if unplugging a NIC can be detected somewhere in /proc. And what about the potential speed like 10Mbit, 100Mbit etc. Thanks in advance Bo

Minimize,size and closing.

Hi. I'm using SuSE 8.2, and suddenly the minimize, size and the closing has changed to circles. Before they were a stroke for minimize, a square for picture size and an X for closing the window.
