Anyone successfully config a linksys wireless wpc11 to linksys pcmcia wap11 card on SuSE 8.2 pro ? I've tried the yast2 dialogs and specify wireless etc. The dialogue prompts for ESSID and NWID. The only thing close that I see on the AP is SSID Any pointers will be appreciated Gary Ernst

how to mount iso files

No matter if "loopback device support" is compiled into the kernel or not, as long as "Twofish encryption for loopback device" is compiles as a module everything works OK. I have not tried compiling the "loopback device support" as a module and the "Twofish encryption for loopback device" INTO the kernel, if that's what you meen.

arecord output anomaly

I *finally* figured out how to get arecord to work --many thanks to this list! :-) What I do not yet know is how to get the output to be useable. It is difficult --if not impossible, to merely explain this --an audio sample would be much better-- but I shall try: The resultant output from arecord contains a noise spike which occurs at the rate of roughly 1.25cps and occupys the entire output. If arecord is activated w/o any input, the spike is still there, though at a mere fraction of the intensity during a recording containing audio data. If anyone would be willing to check the output file, I would be most happy to e-mail a small snippet which will dramatically illustrate the problem. Many thanks... ...CH P.S. For the first time in nearly 2-1/2 weeks I can now use SuSE for actual work. Thanks, once again, to all who helped me w/issues which puzzled me greatly --and frustrated me a bit, as well. :-) -- SuSE is all U need 2 drive U nuts.

How to change stack size?

Mounting Samba Shares

I use smbmount in a local shell script which gets called as one of the last things depending on what init level I start up in (usually 5): /usr/bin/smbmount //<share name>/<dir> /mnt/<your mountpoint> -o username=<user who has full write perms to share>,password=<password>,ip=<ip addr> <cr> This is how we do it at the office, and in addition, since the link can fail over a period of time, we normally have a small shell script which runs as a cron job which writes the date and time to the mountpoint to ask as a keepalive every 5 mins. -Bill

How to integrate packages

Dear all, I am sick of having to install tar.gz packages and having to wonder every time I had to overwrite something, whether what happened to old files. I want to make sure that now on, whatever goes in my SuSE 8.2 system, it goes in as a .rpm. Suppose I have mplayer-0.90 final with me as a tar.bz2 and my 8.2 system has an rc2 or something. I want to be able to do an rpm -Uvh for this package. And since I want my new mplayer to be able to use libdvdread as well as dvdcss, I want it to ask for these packages also. I feel it would be better way of managing packages. I think that such installation shall also nicely integrate my package back into SuSEs central db on my system. Can you please provide me with definitive rpms? I want to build my own .rpm packages after I have compiled the downloaded sources. Kudos to this list!

Hi all, Just want to say that I've just started using SuSE 8.2 this week after using RH 9 for the past few months now. I'm a Solaris server admin for a University, and have wanted to use a Linux desktop as opposed to WinXP. I've had some "challenges" getting some things going, like the sound card, and connecting via WebDAV to our servers, and just wanted to say this list has really helped me out in this short period of time. Also, I'm really impressed with SuSE...so much functionality on the desktop level as opposed to RH.
