Scrolling Track Ball?

Hi Guys, I have been fooling around with scrollong mice and SuSE 8.2 and the KDE control center handles them well. But my favorite 'pointing device' is a Logitech Marble Mouse (funny name for a track ball, I know) This is the symetrical 9ball in the middle) trackball w/ 2 buttons. They have a new modle that has an additional 2 small switches just for up and down scrolling. I don't know how this works in Linux, X and KDE; it is not a wheel, so may be implimented in the Windows driver. Has anyone of you gotten this unit to work on our beloved SuSE? SuSE8.2 Prof.(DVD) install problem: Stalls on "Evaluating package selection"

I tried to install SuSE8.2 on my Dell Laptop(8100 Inspiron with SuSE8.1) last day and when using the DVD the installation process stalls on "Evaluating package selection". When I used the ordinary CD's the install proceeded. So what's up with the DVD? What's the point having the DVD if they don't work? I used the DVD for 7.3, 8.0, 8.1 and I have no intention to switch to CD's now... :-) Cheers, Magnus

Finally using a Linux mailer

I have finally configured my system to let me use a Linux mail client from my Windows PC. Hopefully my messages will now get threaded properly. :-) I'm using evolution. Does that have a way to group messages into threads? Or is the purpose of threading just in the archives? FYI: What I'm doing. I have Win2K installed on my PC for business reasons. (I have to run Goldmine.) I have cygwin/XFree86 installed to give me a X desktop. Then I ssh over to my Linux box in the lab and run evolution with the display coming back to my local XFree86 setup. Seems to be working so far, but I don't have any resize ability on the windows. Hopefully I can figure out how to do that shortly. HTH Greg -- Greg Freemyer

New runlevel?

Hi all, Is it possible to create a whole new runlevel, say runlevel 7, in 8.2. kaffeine and libGLcore.so.1

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hiya gang, I rebuilt the src.rpm of kaffeine and went to install it with 'rpm -ivh kaffeineblah.rpm' but keep getting this message back: error: failed dependencies: libGLcore.so.1 is needed by kaffeine-0.3.1-1 I did a locate for libGLcore, and it's in /usr/lib, and is linked with libGLcore.so.1.0.4363. So I tried to do with libGLcore as I did with QT: libGLcoreDIR=/usr/lib export libGLcore But this doesn't seem to work or help (and I'm pretty sure it's wrong on my part anyway, it was just a shot in the dark). Is there something I'm missing or not doing correctly? I'd really like to try this kaffeiene thing out. Thanks for any hints/suggestions. DOS format wipes out Linux created partition table

For a year or so I've noticed some change in Linux has made dual OS life a bit interesting for me. Typically I would create all of the partitions with Linux FDisk since it gave the most control over the task. For example the listing below: Pri 100MB FAT C: Ext All Free Space Log 100MB Reiser /boot Log 2GB FAT D: Log 4GB FAT E: Log 4GB Reiser / Log 4GB Reiser /home Log 200MB Swap Grub is the OS menu on the hard drive MBR. Once Linux is installed and working, I then boot to MS DOS 7, check the partitions C, D, and E, format them, and unzip a prepared Windows image. Upon reboot, the partitions are scrambled - example: <- GDISK Screen Scrape -> Disk Partitions Cylinders Heads Sectors Mbytes Model 1 4 2501 255 63 19623.5 IBM-DTLA-307020 Partition Status Type Volume Label Mbytes System Usage 1 PRIMARY 682794.4 UNKNOWN 3479% 2 PRIMARY *UNKNOWN* 263172.0 UNKNOWN 1341% 3 PRIMARY *UNKNOWN* 10.4 UNKNOWN 1% 4 PRIMARY *UNKNOWN* 904228.1 UNKNOWN 4608% <- GDISK Screen Scrape -> The only solution I have found to this is to build the partitions with GDisk, then install Linux and set up file systems and mount points. At first I thought it was the new Dell Optiplex GX150 system with Maxtor 40GB drive I had just gotten the first time this happened, payment for not keeping with the tradition of quality clone systems. But today the same thing happened on a clone system of mine - based on a Gigabyte GA7IXE4 with latest BIOS and an IBM 20GB drive. So all I can think is that it is the newer Linux code - FDisk...??? Sensors config for ECS K7S5A m/b with Athlon 2400+ ?

I just upgraded my 8.0 system with an ECS K7S5A motherboard and an Athlon XP 2400+ with no significant problems. After running sensors-detect and accepting the default/offered options for tests, got the following apparently successful scan: Driver `sis5595' (should be inserted): Detects correctly: * ISA bus, undetermined address (Busdriver `i2c-isa') Chip `Silicon Integrated Systems SIS5595' (confidence: 9) I inserted the recommended changes into /etc/modules.conf and /etc/init.d/boot.local. After booting the modules are loaded, but 'sensors' displays bogus output.
