Can I configure 2 modems on the box, one DIAL-IN and the other DIALOUT? and have them work at the same time ?

Yes. Mgetty works with the dial in, wvdial (etc) works with the dial out modem. They can both do their duty at the same time, Linux is robust and doen't stumble all over itself like 'another OS' I'll not mention. ;-)

Hi,
Mgetty is on your SuSE Distribution and includes some documentation. The homepage is at: http://alpha.greenie.net/mgetty/
Have a look at the bottom on the page and there are some links to setting up a dialin server.
If you do a google search you should find quite a few docs on how to setup a dialin server. http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=mgetty+dia...
The mgetty mailing list can be search at http://search.alphanet.ch/

I have some notes on how I set this up, based on various other notes that other people had done. if you like, i could try and tidy them up and send them to you off-list.

http://susefaq.sf.net/ppp.html might give you a starting point

What about hylafax's faxgetty? If I enable it in inittab, I can't dial out with the same modem - contrary to documentation (or I read it wrong).
