umax 2200 scsi no go under SuSE-8.2

Hi everyone. After an upgrade from SuSE 8.1 to 8.2 my umax 2200 freezes the system hard after xsane preview: Here are the messages: Jun 24 12:24:24 sbs3 resmgr[748]: accepted connection from user steve Jun 24 12:24:24 sbs3 xsane: resmgr: server response code 502 Jun 24 12:24:24 sbs3 resmgr[748]: disconnect from steve Jun 24 12:24:37 sbs3 kernel: (scsi0:A:5:0): refuses synchronous negotiation. Using asynchronous transfers The permissions on /dev/sg0 are global rw. I have an Adaptec 2904 (sic) card and everything was fine under 8.1. Can anyone help? Thanks, Steve.

How to install SuSE 8.2 with 1G memory?

Dear All How to install SuSE 8.2 with 1G memory, while I used ftp installation, the process stop at hardware scanning. How to fix it??? BTW, in the another case, I added 512MB ram to system to become 1G ram, when I reboot system , it stop at GLUB stage2. How to fix it?? Regard Gary

synaptic-0.24.1 fails compile on SLES

It seems that older versions of synaptic are being used by people on SuSE. 0.24-rb1 is the one that hdbtroll-at-moment.net is running on SuSE 8.0. So, I figured I'd try to compile it from source. I downloaded synaptic-0.24.1 from synaptic's web site. SuSE 8.2 samba mount no permissions when in fstab

Hi, I upgraded my SuSE 8.1 box to SuSE 8.2 over the weekend. The box has a samba mount that must be permanently up. The entry is in fstab en worked fine since SuSE 8.0 on the box. Now, the share in mounted, but I don't have any write permissions. When I do the mount from the command line with the exact options that is in fstab (copy and pasted them), it works correct, but when I let mount do it using the fstab entry, I have no write permissions. It is not practical to manually mount the share, as the share is used for backups, and the system need to mount the share automatically on boot. I have seen a similar post, in the archives, but no solution yet. Does anybody have a solution? Problem installing 8.1

Hi, I got a new machine yesterday. An Intel motherboard with P4 processor, a Seagate Barracuda 80GB drive, a CD-ROM and a CD-writer/DVD combo. I can boot successfully from either the SuSE 8.1 CD1 or DVD in the respective drives. However I get the message "Cannot find SuSE 8.1 CD1. Starting manual installation." After going into the manual installation it appears that neither the CD/DVD drives nor the hard drive can be found. I would tend to rule out a hardware problem as I was able to install Windows XP and all drives work fine. Any suggestions on how to get past this problem? -- Steve Crane http://craniac.afraid.org

Anthony, I'm not at home so that I can verify, but I'm pretty sure that I have the same card. Anyhow, the quirks that I noticed when I set it up were that some of the output channels were muted and that the actual volume control to adjust the sound was the headphones channel. If you start alsamixer in a terminal window, you should be able to adjust the volumes properly. You use the left/right arrow keys to change channels and the up/down keys to adjust the volume. The M key will mute/unmute a channel which is indicated with a "MM' in the mixer display. You can also try some of the other mixers available, but I had the best luck just using alsamixer. I wrote a few days ago, on a win98 :( laptop, re: a problem accessing the internet after running YOU for 8.0 the first time. I received a response suggesting I create a kppp file with 1 line. Cordless

Haia I'm thinking about replacing my mouse and keyboard with a cordless one like Logitech optical mouse and keyboard. Has anybody any experience with this on SuSE 8.2? After running YOU for the first time to upgrade Suse 8.0, I no longer boot directly into KDE. I think I narrowed it down, via error messages, to: /etc/init.d/xdm permission denied /etc/init.d/rc0.d permission denied /etc/init.d/rc1.d permission denied /etc/init.d/skeleton permission denied If I am locked out as root (and SU), what's a guy to do?
