Haia I'm thinking about replacing my mouse and keyboard with a cordless one like Logitech optical mouse and keyboard. Has anybody any experience with this on SuSE 8.2? The SDbase is not really very helpfull. Thanks for your help. -- Greetings from /bill at 169 west , 19 south. My holy cow is a penguin.

I've been using a Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse for a couple years now and have had absolutely no problems (auto detected correctly on install).... it's the PS2 version, not the USB one though. If you poke around inthe archives you will come across various oddities that people have encountered with USB mice and keyboards. Fo simplicity... I'd suggest the PS2 version of the HW. Ok, you can't hotplug it, but how ofter do you need to do that with your mouse and keyboard. C.

Should just work, the computer should not know HOW they are connected, as long as they produce the same data. I have a number of cordless ones running - saves having to plug a keyboard and mouse in on slave machines at remote locations ;) -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services

I've been using a cordless Trackman Wheel since 7.3 (skipped 8.1) and now on 8.2, and it's worked perfectly for me. No hiccups or anything. I haven't tried a cordless keyboard yet though. I bought a Logitech cordless keyboar/mouse about two months ago. In kombination with lineak it worked great for three weeks with SuSE 8.2. Then my cat managed to tip over a cup of coffee that was badly placed - dead keyboard. But I really liked the cordless option. As I'm unemployed I couldn't affor a new Logitech so I got a cheaper cordless - micro$oft. (he said blushing). It too has worked without problems. I am using a Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse and Keyboard under SuSE 8.2
and find it quite nice. You will have to amend the /etc/X11/XF86config
file to add a couple of option lines, in order to use the wheel, but
otherwise, it is quite nice. One drawback: To save energy, there are
no LEDs on the keyboard, and the accompanying software which displays
the equivalents of LEDs on the screen is Windows-only.

Dennis, This is not really a problem either as programs are available to do that in Linux as well. I have found two very nice ones. One is a program that displays in the systray, while the other is an applet with sounds, mouse control, etc. I like the applet one the best myself, but have rpm files for both if you should want them too. Just email me off list. They are both small, so should not hurt in email transfer. Thanks everybody for being very helpfull. I want to order a new computer etc in a couple of months time and because I am thousands of KM away of a supplier , I cannot afford in having the wrong hardware. ( about 8 months ago I bought a Digital camera and cannot get it to work in SuSE) I might come back and ask your opinion about LCD screens as well. Thanks again. What camera? I had a similar problem with a Sony digital camera and discovered that a small tweak to the USB module was all that was needed. It's possible that you may be able to get it working... maybe... C.

Or the universal solution, a usb card-reader. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

Yeah, maybe. We had a long discussion here on this list before ( subject Digital camera second try) and couldn't solved it. I have ordered a card reader now and hope that it will work. Thanks for your input. -- Greetings from /bill at 169 west , 19 south. My holy cow is a penguin.
