After running YOU for the first time to upgrade Suse 8.0, I no longer boot directly into KDE. I think I narrowed it down, via error messages, to: /etc/init.d/xdm permission denied /etc/init.d/rc0.d permission denied /etc/init.d/rc1.d permission denied /etc/init.d/skeleton permission denied If I am locked out as root (and SU), what's a guy to do? I'd suggest running fsck - the only time I was denied access as root, it was because the disk had become corrupted. But back up your disc first, in case fsck can't mend it properly.
