KDE3.1.1 March27/29 update. Two problems not one.

I have now determined that the problem I was having with KDevelop's widgets is distinct from the problem with the fonts. I built the releas 3.1.1 from the www.kde.org site, and I still have a problem with the fonts. I'm almost certain this started with my installing KDE 3.1.1 and QT 3.1.2. I have to observe that I'm not directly using either one of these. My QTDIR is /usr/local/qt-3.1.2 which I built myself, and my KDEDIR /opt/kded is symlinked to /opt/kde-3.1.1-release which I built. The problem with the fonts seems to be that the documentation has Helvetica hard-coded into the HTML. Why? Don't ask me, but removing the obnoxious blight allows me to read the document in Konqueror. I'm still uncertain as to what the problem with the fonts is. My guess is, there is some kind of font replacement mapping getting in the way. I've tried removing the /etc/X11/qtrc and rebuilding the fonts cache, to no avail. There is the chance that my problem with kdevelop could be internal to my setup, though I doubt it. I tried pretty hard to remove any references to my own versions of things when trying to isolate the source of the problem. STH

WLAN with Cisco-card

list, I'm running SuSE8.1 trying to setup a WLAN with a Cisco-card(firmware;4.25.30). First I set it up via Yast2 with the module-name; airo_cs.o I can't get it to work after "dhcpcd eth1" !!?? here is my /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth1 BOOTPROTO='dhcp' REMOTE_IPADDR='' STARTMODE='onboot' also tryed with "hotplug" UNIQUE='' WIRELESS='yes' WIRELESS_ESSID='any' WIRELESS_KEY='' WIRELESS_MODE='Managed' WIRELESS_NICK='' WIRELESS_NWID='' Any suggestion's // glenn

VPN server with SuSE 8.1

I've decided to build out my first Linux based VPN server to service a half dozen "road warriors" and thier Windows based laptops (Win2K or XP). However, I'm a bit confused between FreeSwan, PoPToP, openvpn, etc. Seems like a lot of products that kind of do similar things. Not that that is a problem, options are good. I just need a bit of help narrowing things down. Any tips? I tried pptp then an experimental 2.5 kernel. But I decided on using freeswan it's stable robust and relitivly easy to set up. My MS machines have no idea that the neighboring Domain is over 60 miles away.

SuSE 8.2 - Advanced Purchase???

I was just on the German site and noticed that they have a link to "book in advance" (lycos translation) SuSE 8.2. Does anyone know when this will be available on the English site? It's not extremely important, just curious. -- DC

Slow dial-up

I am using a U.S. Robotics 56K Performance Pro V.92 PCI modem which is fully supported. My ISP supports V.92. I am using Kinternet to connect. Yet, when downloading files from http or ftp, my datarate is averaging 3Kb/s( yes it spikes to 10Kb/s and drops to 0Kb/s, but still averages 3Kb/s). I am locked on that one file that is downloading, and until it is fully downloaded I can't use my connection for anything else (even trading a slower datarate for further access or multiple downloads). Bouncing mail because of a non-existing domain

Hello all, I have standard SuSE8.1 setup at home and Kmail can receive mails fine, but it can't send mail. IKmail is using Postfix. My smtp setup in Kmail is in the form : "smtp.isp_mail_address" When I use kmail to send I keep getting the following message... "Sending failed .... Sender address rejected: Domain not found" I pinged "smtp.isp_mail_address" and added "smtp.isp_mail_address" plus the returned IP address to /etc/hosts file but that didn't change anything. What gives? I surely don't need have a registered domain to use kmail. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance James

Question: Updating SuSE

SuSE Linux 8.2 has been announced, and I know I'm going to get it. Newbie that I am, I'll get a full professional package for any changes to the manuals. I do have a question, though. I've been working at getting my system the way I want it. Not there yet, but it's getting better. What is the procedure for an upgrade of this type? What files / directories do I need to protect? What are the "gotcha's" that I can run into? This is new to me, so all help will be appreciated. -- Penguins eat butterflies, don't they?

latest KDE upgrade for SuSE 8.0 & WindowMaker crashes

After apt-getting the latest KDE to upgrade SuSE vers 8.0 , am finding that Kmail is causing WindowMaker to crash Did anyone else have similar experience, please ? thanks best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________
