5328 has falling and can't get up!

another sa-learn question

I run spamassassin systemwide i.e. from /etc/procmailrc and use global settings. If I run sa-learn as root, the stuff wil go to /root/.spamassasin/, right? So will spamassasin be able to read those "learned" data, or do I need to put it elsewhere manually? Thanks Hans

Suse 9.0 and nforce2 board

My system is as follows: -Epox 8rda+ motherboard with a nforce2 chip-set <cries> -Linksys LNE100TX network card (because I couldn't ftp install with the nforce2 onboard LAN). -ATI Radeon 9600pro video card. My onboard sound is AC97 and was recognized and functioning on install. My problems are, when I try to get my agpgart working for my video card (by following nvidia's install instructions for the rpm install), my sound stops working (I believe nvaudio is installed and my AC97 poofs), my network stops working (nvnet overrides my Linksys card) and I can't correctly patch my kernel for agpgart which is all I want to do in the first place lol. For the patching the agpgart problem, when (as per nvidia's instructions) I'm in /usr/src/linux-2.4.21-144 (I'm assuming this is the Linux kernel source directory I installed from the beginning) and type 'patch -p1 < linux-2.4.21-144-agpgart.diff' I get a file/directory not found. When I look around for this file I find a 2.4.20 version of agpgart.diff a few directory trees further inside my /usr/src directory. I can't believe how much I have learned about Linux already and I still know nothing :). TIA Craig Lien

Various problems (DVD sound, alsa, tiny fonts) have been fixed!

Hi all, Thought I'd let you know that I got the following fixed: 1) Kaffeine now happily outputs sound for DVD. I changed the sound server from "auto" to "arts" and enabled the arts server under the Control Center --> Sound and Multimedia --> Sound. I then went to the shell and attempted to find the command to turn on the sound server. I typed as root "artsc-config". That didn't output anything to the screen, but it seemed to turn something on and now it works. Just for kicks, I rebooted the system to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It worked again! 2) Alsa is now fully accessible from the shell. I installed the ncurses-devel file and that helped install the various ncurses utilities that alsa has, such as alsamixer, alsaconf, etc. 3) Tiny fonts have been fixed. For some reason, when I tried to change the horizontal (or was it vertical?) frequency, sax2 did not get the correct parameters from the monitor about the screen size. Fortunately, YaST made an original file under a different filename. I beileve it was "conf.yastsave". I deleted the current conf file, copied conf.yastsave to conf, and it works like a champ again! I also fixed the boot problem that I've been having. Every other boot to SuSE, it would hang at "Loading keymap us.map.gz". I went to YaST --> Misc --> Editor for etc/sysconfig files, and went to the relevant entry for the keyboard. I then cleared out the entry for the keymap (it was set to "us.map.gz") and rebooted the system. It now boots every time, and it is also significantly faster because I turned off postfix and hwscan, neither of which was needed for my system. Hope this helps! SuSE 9.0 plus Matrox P650

Anyone have any success with a P650 video card on a SuSE 9.0 install? I've got the downloads from matrox. I can get analog output just fine, but when I try to add digital out is when I get in trouble. Thanks, Ron

Resizing ReiserFS

Hi everyone, Can I resize my / patition? I installed 8.2 to a large (100gb) drive and would like to reduce the / partion to something more manageable. I tried to resize with Yast/Partitioner, got a message advising me that resizing ReiserFS is possible, but has not been very well tested. I proceeded, but then got a message that this cannot be done on a mounted partition. Can I unmount a running / partition? Another option would be to run a dos/windows based partiting program to reduce the size, but I am unsure what effect this will have on the operation of 8.2. Thanks for any suggestions. Jim Flanagan

Minor Pysol annoyance

Hello list, I have noticed that Pysol that comes with 9.0 has a issue with saving the preferences that you set. For example, my wife wants to turn off the sound (she does not want to listen to the music I guess) but that option does not stay selected. I looked for the configuration file for it in her home dir and found it to be read/write but still this behavior continues. Any clue on how to get Pysol to keep the settings?
