SuSE 9.0 NTFS Read/Write

I thought SuSE 9.0 was supposed to allow Read/Write permission to NTFS partitions. It is only giving me read access to my NTFS partitions, is there something special I have to do besides mount it with the 'rw' option? David I had this same problem when I got my Tungsten T, if you did what I did, after the pc hung you power cycled the pc and by doing this corrupted the filesystem, you will need to boot from a cd, I used a Knoppix cd and then mount you hard disk under Knoppix and perform a reiserfsck on the partition, if you have a different filesystem you will need to a fsck etc... After the reiserfsck is completed you can recycle your pc and all should boot just fine, if you are as lucky as I was. Alcatel Speedtouch

I'm trying to set up a Speedtouch modem using the instructions on http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/05/configSpeedTouch.html - but the link to the Alcatel site is just to the homepage, and I can't find any speedmgmt file ( http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=site%3Awww.alcatelds… ) Any suggestions?

SuSE9.0 No sound on TECRA laptop

Hi guys, I used to have sound using ALSA on my TECRA 8000 laptop in previous SuSE version although configuring it manually. With the the 9.0 I lost sound. Even at the alsaconf and yast there is a choice named "TECRA 8000" in the group OPL3SA2... but it doesn't work. Even configuring manually with the address and irq values from the BIOS... No sound at all. Anyone has installed 9.0 on a tecra? share your battle please :-)

Batch file renamer

Dear All, I am looking for an app that will rename alot of files at once. I downloaded krename, but cannot get it to install. It complains about not finding the qt headers but I have them installed, so I am not sure why that is not installing. Is there another app that I could use for batch file renaming that is simple with a gui? I have Suse 8.2. Thanks. Marcia

[SLE] SuSE 9.0 ATI Radeon Drivers

I installed the new radeon drivers, which apparently don't come with a prebuilt module for my kernel. So I decided to build my own. I have only ever compiled kernel source on RedHat systems, and SuSE seems to be very different in its setup. Anyway, I completely failed in my attempt, X still will not boot, has anybody managed to build a custom module for this or any other application? Is there any help available on the net? My main problem is locating the DRM headers and kernel includes and all that. I think I have to modify the /lib/modules/fglrx/build_module/make.sh script that automates the building of the module. It does not seem to be looking in the right places for my headers and things. One last comment. `make cloneconfig'?!?!? Why don't all other distro's have this? This is wonderful! SUSE 8.1 + K^-II + help

Marcelo I would check your set up. I have been running 8.1 on several K-6 II and K-6 IIIs here with the deft kerrnal (right out of the box) with no problem. I have had trouble with the USB ports but using legacy hardware everything works. I memory seves me right, there was a BIOS patch for some motherboards to make K-6 II work correctly. You might have to try and search thoose out. BoB C

Scripts, and other such critters

A friend has sent me a script that they use in an RPG with their client, which is Zmud. It came as an attachment, but there is no extension on it, it's just plaintext. I use Kmuddy, and would like to try this script out, but don't know what extension to add to the script to make it recognizable to kmuddy 'as a script'. Does anyone have any idea what extension I should use for scripts? Also, I've another very short script from another friend who uses Zmud (which is M$ by the way, and Kmuddy is, of course, Linux) also. Is there anyone here who wouldn't mind looking at it and telling me if it would work in linux? The script itself is only about 20 lines long, but I would have to send her explanation of what it's meant to do, along with the script, but it's still nothing huge, I just don't have any clue about writing scripts, or languages or programming. SuSe 8.0 and SAS 9.0 install (LDT Threads?)

Hiya, I am trying to install SAS 9.0 on SuSe 8 and am told that I need a glibc with LDT threads for it to install correctly. Currently I have kernel 2.4.18 and glibc 2.2.5-38 and I do not have a /lib/i686 directory. I have tried to install the rpm glibc-2.2.5-163.i686.rpm but recieved the error message: error: failed dependencies: filesystem is needed by glibc-2.2.5-163 If someone could point me to the correct libc install package, I would appreciate it. grub entry to boot Win2k on hdh1

Now that I have installed SuSE 9.0 on my new machine, I would like to see if I can boot into windows (Win2k) on the old hard disk. The disk is hdh. It is formatted NTFS and there are no partitions. What would I add to grub to make this disk/os an option to boot to when the machine starts. Is there a way to autodetect this as a bootable option. Thanks, -=Thinker
