Cronjob - revisited

Hi all. To this day I still can't get the following to work from a cron job: mt -f /dev/st0 setblk 32768 && tar -cSPf /dev/st0 -b 64 /store/bkup && mt -f /dev/st0 rewoffl It returns the following error: tar: /dev/st0: Wrote only 0 of 32768 bytes tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now The job runs without complaining on a root konsole. Building KDevelop 3

When I run .configure, I get an error message that it can't find Berkely DB > 3. I have installed Berkely DB 4, and it is present in /usr/local/BerkelyDB.4.2/ I've looked at the archives for KDevelop, and I can see that various people have been hitting this since last May. I've tried using --extra-includes and - --extra-libs on the .configure line, but it still doesn't find my BerkelyDB I'm pretty sure some of the people here have installed KDevelop 3. As you're on the same distro I have, you probably hit the same problem. Reply to sender - direct add - not maillist

Hi, I am a member of various lists but on this one if you click reply to sender the direct address appears and not the list. On the others the list appears - so I take it my system is OK?? I have download suse 9.0 I gave had to install twice now. Here is what is happening. I get everything up and going. I get into KDE update Suse and play around for a while. everthing seems fine and then all of a sudden something happens that causes me to reboot. This last time Konqueror was not responding. When I reboot the login screen is all gray with a concole log window in the corner and when I log in I don't goto KDE I have an all gray screen. The login screen doesn't have any options and I don't know what happened. Is it something with X?? I did download and install the latest Nvidia driver for Linux which seemed to work fine. I installed that so I could enable 3d acceleration. But if it was that how come it worked for hours after I restarted. I played games and browsed and stuff np. Very frusterated :-s

Like I said, it looks like everything is there. What you don't see here is that I did successfully download a suse/setup directory. I imagine there's a straight-forward way to verify the integrity of the downloaded data. I see the keys there. I didn't see anything about that in any of the readme files, the archives, or the faqs. Any help in that regard or getting the install going is greatly appreciated. kmail question

While we're on the subject of mail... kmail doesn't seem to want to expire old messages after the length of time I specify in the "properties of folder" dialogue (folder holds mailing list). Is this because my folder for the list belongs to the "Top Level"? Or should I change some setting in control centre? Neither looks like a good answer... More likely I should go to Settings / Configure KMail / Folders .. and check "Expire old messages"... but .. I don't want to lose recent mail that I've read and not finished with yet. If I check that box and exit kmail I get the message "are you sure you want to delete old messages, they will be deleted permanently" or some such. I am happy as long as kmail will look at the rules for each folder before deciding what is "old mail". Any more experienced kmail users who could put my mind (such as it is) to rest? Jake

perl template::plugin question

The script referenced on the url below, used to work with previous perl-GD... versions that came with earlier suse versions. http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue83/misc/padala/simple.pl.txt (if have repeated the script below for completeness, it's not big really). It seems that the current version of perl-GD is treating the perl module GD::Graph::bars differently. It now uses templates or so? However, I don't the script running on suse9. MainActor AVI Loader Module is empty?

Hello all, I've been playing around with MainActor for a while now (nice program btw!), but it appears that the Loader Module for AVI doesn't support any codecs. Now I know I can play the files with mplayer (been there, done that), so how can I make MainActor use those codecs or perhaps download a codec that _will_ work for the AVI Loader Module.
