not found - libtool.m4

Hello Group; I recently downloaded the latest versions of automake, autoconf, and libtool (which has "aclocal" as part of it). SuSE has put the home for all in /usr/share/ (no problem!). The problem is that after a fresh yast2 reload of all the above file libtool.m4 was missing from /usr/share/libtool. Is this a goof on my part or just missing? This problem comes from (as I remember) autoconf "make check" failing on libtool4.test. k_ath kernels?

Hey guys! I'm using the k_dflt kernels on all of my machines right now, but 2 of the machines are AMD Duron machines. Would I gain any performance by using the k_ath (Athlon) SuSE kernels? Should I be using them? I know the Duron isn't an Athlon, but since they're both AMD... :-) Thanks! -Jonathan

apache errors

I just did an on line upgrade and after reboot I get the following errow when starting apache. Failed to start apache : Starting httpd [ Mailman PERL PHP4 Python ]stty: standard input: Inappropriate ioctl for device ..failed I have looked i find that this is common yet I couldn't find a solution. Any ideas Caleb

nvidia and monitor troubles

Have upgraded from nv driver to nvidia, but now I cannot get the graphical desktop back on. Systemn is SuSU8.1 with GeForce2 MX400 card, and flatpanel monitor. When Xserver starts, I get a message from the monitor, that it is in Invalid Mode, FH: 79,9kHz FV:75.0 Hz. Everytime i try to run sax2 I get this message, not being able to change anything. Already fiddled around in /etc/X11/XF86Config, deleting lines with high modes (1280x1078), but this does not help. Anybody can be of some help please??? TIA L1

cd-burning - hard crash

here is a short descriptios of my problem. I have SuSE 8.1 and have one DVD drive and one cdrw drive. I had no problems burning (I used KOnCD) until I removed my DVD drive for a week to use it in another computer. Now I have it back... everything seems fine except: when I try to burn a data cd (I can still burn audio) my sytem goes down hard. any ideas where to look. I havn't changed any configs so whatever changes happend, they must be from SuSE automagically reconfiguring after a hardware change. ls -l /dev/dvd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 2002-10-21 23:24 /dev/dvd -> /dev/sr1 ls -l /dev/cdrecorder lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2002-10-20 23:24 /dev/cdrecorder -> sr0 ls -l /dev/sr1 brw------- 1 neutrino disk 11, 1 2002-09-09 22:24 /dev/sr1 ls -l /dev/sr0 brw------- 1 neutrino disk 11, 0 2002-09-09 22:24 /dev/sr0 and these are the correct drives. CUPS and printing japanese characters

Hello List, I'm currently having a little bit of trouble getting Japanese characters to print. I can display the characters fine on screen, but when I go to print them, I either get the character codes, or I get blank squares on the print-out. I'm using CUPS to print to an HP LaserJet 4100tn. I have all the fonts installed, but for some reason CUPS won't print them. USB solid state disk.

Hi folks, I'm just experimenting with a WinFast Disk (USB solid state disk) and it seems to be working OK and being found as a scsi device when I plug it in OK, except that it keeps mounting it as the next device each time its attached (ie /media/sda1, /media/sdb1, /media/sdc1 etc.) Is there any way of stopping it doing this? It leaves the /media/sdx1 directory behind each time its unplugged, but doesn't seem to matter if I delete it or not each time, it still uses the next letter. thanks. Peter Nunn.

I could not however get it to create a queue ... it kept coming back with an error something like "remote host is not running 'rexec'" and I'm thinking how can a JetDirect box run anything? Yes JetAdmin looks a very handy piece of kit and does everything apart from waht I actually want which is setting up print queues (so I can then share them and set up Samba for my family's Windows PC's .. eepro100 on Compaq Evo and SuSE 7.3

I tryed to install SuSE 7.3 on a Compaq Evo Workstation. >From specifications, this machine has a INTEL PRO 100 UM Network Card on board. After some minor installation problems, SuSE 7.3 was finally running, but no card was detected. I tryed using different modules (from yast, yast2, by hand), but none is working, not even the eepro100 (that is supposed to be the right one) The card is not detected by any way. I am including results from lspci -v and lspci -vv, which show that apparently the card is detected by the hardware and bios. any ideas?
