KDE 2.1; In what file does KDE save the the anti-alias setting is true? (control-center-look&feel-style --> write in what file?)

Hi, I hope s.b. knows it, as my KDE 2.1 nolonger likes me - since I tried to enable the anti-alias setting. The mistake is certainly on my side (wrong qt-library), but right now I'd like to get KDE working first again, before putting in the time to upgrade to the latest KDE. Compilation error

Hi all, I just installed SuSE 7.1 pro. The attempt to compile my first two programs (tsocks and installwatch) ended with this error: tsocks.c: In function `_init': tsocks.c:122: `RTLD_NEXT' undeclared (first use in this function) tsocks.c:122: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once tsocks.c:122: for each function it appears in.) make: *** [tsocks.so] Error 1 I could compile this programs with SuSE 7.0. I got this error with both gcc-2.95.2 and gcc-2.95.3. Any clue? TIA Maurizio Firmani

Banco Mercantil Moves to Linux on IBM Mainframe Caracas, Venezuela - 05-03-2001 Venezuelan Bank is First Financial Institution with SuSE Linux IBM and Banco Mercantil today announced that Banco Mercantil is the first Latin American company -- and among the first financial institutions anywhere -- to implement Linux for the enterprise. In the first phase of the project, Banco Mercantil has replaced 30 existing NT servers with a single IBM mainframe. Later, applications currently running on Sun and HP servers will be moved to the new Linux platform. In addition, the bank is using Linux mainframe Web applications to enable customers to check bank account information via the Internet. The mainframe's two cryptographic co-processors provide the high level of security necessary for sensitive financial data. "Linux on the IBM mainframe allows us to consolidate in a very cost effective way," said Isaac Arismendi, IT Infrastructure Manager, Banco Mercantil. "In addition to these applications running on the mainframe, we have higher availability and reliability, and better performance. Consolidation also means that we have far fewer individual servers to administer." The IBM mainframe, an S/390 G6, running a SuSE distribution of Linux will at first handle file servers, Internet domain servers and a firewall. Previously, these had each been running on separate NT servers. Banco Mercantil, using a specially designed hardware feature for Linux on the mainframe, the IBM Integrated Facility for Linux, was able to add Linux applications and system capacity without increasing overall mainframe software costs, making Linux the most economical way for the bank to consolidate. "This landmark project is a breakthrough for Linux in the banking sector and is yet further evidence that Linux for the enterprise is here today," said John Morris, Vice President, IBM eServer z900. "The combination of Linux and the mainframe provides Banco Mercantil with the superior technology necessary to meet the demands of the uncompromising financial sector." Hi All, I am using SuSE 7.1 personal on my computer and I would like to use qt. I see qt2 and qt-2.2.3 in /usr/lib. I am quite new to linux, would someone please explain to me how to I get qt (designer,etc) to work? Gnome 1.5 for SuSE?

Creating a Update CD

I am trying to D/Led the contents of /update and then create a CD that YAST2 will recognize as a good update CD. I am doing this from a Win2000 machine if that may be the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! NeoFax

Problem mounting NFS exported from SuSE 7.1

When I try to mount an NFS filesystem that has been expoted from a SuSE 7.1 box on another box (running AIX 4.3.3 - but I don't think this is relevant), the mount fails. The SuSE /var/log/messages shows that NFS has authorised the request, but then reports that the kernel nfsd has rejected it as it comes from an "insecure port". I don't know why the kernel nfsd is getting a look in as I've specified USE_KERNEL_NFSD="no" in /etc/rc.config (and remembered to run SuSEconfig). Filesystems exported from the AIX box mount with no problems on the SuSE box. SuSE 7.1 has recentlly replaced RedHat 6.1 on this particular box and NFS was working fine under RedHat. These are the log entries: ---snip--- May 3 10:50:48 ns2 rpc.mountd: authenticated mount request from 159.15.129.3:802 for /usr/shr (/usr/shr) May 3 10:50:48 ns2 kernel: nfsd: request from insecure port (9f0f8103:53432)! ---snip--- Anyone got any advice on how to get this working, please?

Firewall with gui interface?

Might someone tell of a firewall that I can use that has a gui? If you tell me to you YaST to set it up I would really like some help on just how that's done. I can't find any HOWTO that tells me how to setup the SuSE-personal-firewall. And I have also been at a lose to find something that shows you how to use YaST to do this. Ive been trying to format a Compact Flash card all morning with little progress. Out of curiousity I looked at kernel.org and noticed that there is some work in USB for the exact card that I am using on v2.4.5pre So can someone tell me what the steps are for setting up a new kernel once you download it. Is there anything specific I need to do to be able to compile it, Im comfortable compiling the kernels I get from SuSE including 2.4.4 etc Ive never needed to go that next step before. Thanks dids

Printing with pauses

Hello, I have SuSE-7.1 and yast2 configured HP1100 (apsfilter & a2p) When I print a many-sheet document the printer make a pause after the each leaf. How I can delete this pause? What breake a strim? Thanks. Nick
