Cheers ! I just set up the hylafax server ! But I experienced a problem.... I configured faxgetty as instructed...but I still can't receive faxes automatically. Just to announce, the manual way works, "faxanswer ttyS1 " .... can someone help me, maybe I just forgot something... thanks & cheers patric illi

Cheers ! I don't want to receive e-mails from xy(a)xy.com anymore. Does anyone know a straight way to catch and trash all e-mails coming from that address ? I am using the new Sendmail generation ! cheers Patric Illi

Sound and KDE 2.1

Hi, Ever since I upgraded my SuSE 7.0 KDE to 2.x, I have been having problems with sound: 1. Can't play midi. The midi player acts as if it's playing music, but there is no sound. This started with KDE 2.0.1 (the first KDE 2.x version I installed). 2. VMWare gives me an error message saying /dev/dsp is busy so it therefore does not play any sound in the guest operating system. 3. Starting with KDE 2.1, sound is garbled. It seems to be overly affected by system load (windows opening, etc). 4. Perhaps related to # 3, there is a process sucking up CPU time: artsd. Strange Udp ports

Hi Susers, just to check the security of my machine I run "nmap -vv -sU mymachineip" from another box on the internet. nmap returns that udp ports 137, 138, 272, 464, 635, 929, 1110 1464 and 2002 are open. I run netstat from my machine and I note that only 137 and 138 are really open, not the others. Furthermore, 137 and 138 are firewalled with ipchains (-j DENY option). Can anybody explain me why nmap does these mistakes, if they really are mistakes? Why it sees 137 and 138 as open while they are firewalled? Thanks in advance Tazio

revert to old modutils?

hey, a while back I was playing with 2.4 kernels and upgraded modutils on my 7.0 box, for one reason or another, i need to stay with kernel 2.2.16.....now i find certain dri modules won't load when X starts because x can't find the modprobe command? can i revert back to the original 7.0 modutils package? how? Seriously OT: Need help with HTML

Hi All, I have a little deal where I need to run some javascript code when someone clicks on a link. The link shouldn't go anywhere.. let me explain. The link is on a person's name, and when they click on their name, I want to pop up a little window that gives them all of the information about themselves. I have the javascript already written, and the PHP code written to get the data from the database... it's the link part that is tripping me up now. I have this: <a href='' OnClick=MyInfo()>[person's name]</a> and it's working -- the window pops up and everything looks great... but the page that the link is on does different things in different browsers: IE5.x/Netscape 4.x/Mozilla 0.9: Tries to access the directory that the URL is in, subsequently getting a "directory browsing is denied" error. Konqueror: Works fine, but the link isn't underlined like a link is supposed to be. What can I do? Has anyone tried to do something like this before? Where's SuSEfirewall?

I'm running SuSE 7.0 with kernel 2.2.19, and as with previous SuSE and kernel versions, I get a series of messages on boot-up, the last bunch of which report various tasks completed. The word "done" shows for each of them at the right of my screen, and if they don't work, I get a "failed" message for each such process at the end. As part of that process, I get an IP address from my provider (I'm on a cable modem, and run either dhcpclient or dhcpcd, depending), and I set up a firewall. The line for FW_START (or is it START_FW?) is set to yes. Up until recently, I would get two messages, one would tell me that the system was setting up preliminary firewall stuff, and then near the end of the boot process, I would get another message telling me something about a final run-through or such, and the firewall would be set. That's all gone. I have to either log on and run SuSEfirewall manually, or do what I'm doing right now, which is running it in boot.local. Can someone tell me which script runs SuSEfirewall ordinarily, and in which script the line running it is supposed to go? I did run the "new" SuSEfirewall rpm package (4.3 or something), and I'm wondering if that was what changed things (although it didn't replace my 2.6 firewall config file). TIA, Stan Koper

[OT] MS Office (XP): the sad truth

The sad truth is that MS Office, and Word in particular, has become a de facto standard in much of big business and government, both in the USA and (it appears) in other countries such as Great Britain. Documents get exchanged in that format, and if you don't have the latest version (soon to be XP) you can't work with them. The behavior is self-reinforcing. Star Office isn't a solution, and won't be until and unless it is able to both import and export the most recent MS formats. I wish that would happen, but I don't expect it to. Please don't get me wrong. I lament this state of affairs as much as anyone here. The only solution I can see is a new antitrust action that would force Microsoft to publish its data formats for all Office products 90 days before releasing any new ones and would explicitly permit anyone else to use them. Dial-In server

I have a firewall server running SuSE 7.1. I want to add an modem so that remote traveling sales people can login and use our network resorces and also prevents us from having to have an ISP for dialup. I have got the dail-in stuff most of the way working. I can dial up the server, connect, access the internet. I can not access any of the systems (other than the dial-up server) on the internal network though. I checked the firewall, the users should have unlimited network permissions since I couldn't get it to work I decided to go from a nothing to something routine, I checked the firewall logs. They do not show any items for when I try to connect to the internal network. Does anyone have any suggestions on why I can't do anything including ping the sytems.
