Hi, I used it with mandrake 7.2, worked fine, and it doesn't have the limit of 1024 cilinders that lilo had prior to last version. Thank you, Robert, for giving me a hand. Between the time I asked this question and when I noticed your reply, I upgraded SuSE from 6.4 to 7.1. My new installation of 7.1 came with the /sbin/init.d/qmail start up script which I've pasted in at the end of this message. Thanks, again, for your help. -Kevin Zembower ----- E. Kernel 2.4.4 and ALSA sound

I've experimented with the 2.4.2 kernel from kernel.org and encountered two problems: failures of USB initialization and no sound. I'm not too concerned about the USB problems since I don't have any USB devices, but I do want to get my sound back. I've read somewhere here that the problem is that the kernel doesn't include ALSA support. Are there any workarounds for that or other methods anyone here has used to get sound under 2.4.4? Paul

VIA 686B bug fix for Linux

I have a MSI K7T Turbo motherboard with the VIA 686B Southbridge chip (KT-133A chipset). Is there a bug fix for Linux? If so how do I correct the problem. I'm currently using SuSE 7.0 but want to fix the problem before upgrading to 7.1. The Windows bug fix does not help Linux at all, I have already tried it. Windows works without any problems anymore but Linux is still messed up. Mutt and Procmail

Ok here is what I understand if I use procmail it will deliver to mail to the appropriate folders based on the filtering rules. That means I would have to go over all of my folders to see if I have received email. Including the business mails I receive my daily email rate is somewhere between 500-750 depending the day. Especially the business mails I do not want to skip since I may have headaches later. So I would like to see them in one folder and once I have a look at them they should be delivered to the appropriate folders for archiveing purposes. So will procmail do this if the answer is yes then I am ready to go and play with it and of course call for help -- Togan Muftuoglu

IDE DMA broken on kernel 2.4.0?

Hi: I have a ASUS A7V mobo running Suse 7.1. The 2.2.18 kernel appeared to work fine. But when the /etc/init.d/idedma script ran, it took a long time to complete. Don't really know enough yet to determine if DMA was really enabled or not. Then I tried the 2.4.0 Suse kernel. I thought it was failing to boot at all, because it gets hung up for a long time making error messages like this: Partition check: hda: hda: timeout waiting for DMA ide_dmaproc: chipset supported by ide_dma_timeout func only: 14 hda: irq_timeout: status=0x58 {DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest} hda: DMA disabled ide0: reset: success hda1 hda2 .... But then the kernel continues booting. How can I fix it so: 1. It doesn't take several minutes waiting for timeouts before disabling DMA? 2. How can I get DMA to work properly for the IDE hard drive? Can't access Jazz or Zip SCSI on 7.1

Hi: I have SCSI Jazz and Zip drives. They are hooked to a controller with Advansys ASC3050B chip. On Suse 6.2 I used modprobe advansys and these devices worked just fine. Now running 7.1 with the 2.2.18 kernel, the modprobe takes a very long time and fails to access the devices. /proc/partitions shows a long list of empty partitions. The physical drives are never accessed (no blinking lights). In short, advansys SCSI is broken! Any idea how to fix this? I considered just trying the 2.4 kernel, but that won't boot. KDE 2.1.1 crashed when using Kmail

Greetings, I'm using SuSE7.1 and Kmail to retreive my emails from my ISP's mail server. After retreving all my emails KDE would crash out leaving a blank screen. I've to press ctrl-alt-backspace to get back to the login screen. I don't have this problem with KDE 2.0 though. Anyone with a similar problem? Tks very much.
