3ware raid controllers under SuSE 7.1

We recompiled the stock 2.2.x kernel on SuSE 7.1 to support the 3ware Escalade 6800 RAID controller. We can now see and mount the raid array, but when we run the 3dmd daemon we cannot query the status of the array. Also, the kernel gives error messages like: 3w-xxxx: Unknown ioctl 0x2. 3w-xxxx: Unknown ioctl 0x3. 3w-xxxx: Unknown ioctl 0x4. 3w-xxxx: Unknown ioctl 0xb. Shown in `dmesg`. This does not happen on a mostly identical hardware setup (same RAID controller, mobo, etc) running redhat 7.0. Has anyone worked with 3ware controllers under SuSE 7.x releases? Please email me any responses as I may not stay on this list if the traffic is too high. Chris

Hi, Check with a sound mixer if you have the cd-channel volume low or switched-off.... Amiga filesystem support broken???

I have an app that runs on an amiga as the front end to a mainfraim. The amiga boots off a syquest ez135 removable scsi disc drive. Back when I used SuSE 6.4/2.2.16 kernel I could mount these disks on my linux box. Of coarse I had to build my own kernel with the amiga support built in. All worked great. I could read/write these disks no problem. Now with 7.1 and 2.4.x kernel I can't even mount the amiga disks that I put in the drive. What happens is, the mount command gets frozen. I can't even kill the process. If I try to reboot, the machine hangs such that I have to hit the reset switch. I can format one of these disks (via the adaptec 2930U bios) then partition/format it as ext2 and all is well. So it appears that somewhere between 6.4/2.2.16 and 7.1/2.4.x the amiga filesystem support has gotten trashed. Is anyone out there using SuSE 7.1 and any of the SuSE kernels that can actually mount an amiga disk?? I hope this ? isn't to far off topic I am using SuSE linux. Mark

Anyone successful installing SuSE 7.1 on Dell PowerEdge 1550?

Has anyone successfully installed SuSE 7.1 on a Dell PowerEdge 1550? The manufacturer rates it as certified with Red Hat 7.0. I thought that this might be close enough. When I tried to install SuSE 7.1, at first it said that there were no hard disks found. Then, I used some screen to manually probe for modules, and suddenly, it found the hard disk, a RAID 5 array. I thought I was home free. But, when I rebooted it, it couldn't run anything. Even before it got to LILO, it told me to "press F1 to reboot, press F? to do something else..." I gave up and installed Red Hat 7.0. At one point in the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD directions, before I got to the Red Hat install, it had me create a kickstart diskette, then type "linux ks=floppy noprobe" at the linux boot prompt. After that, the RH install went automatically to a successful conclusion. How come I could install RH 7.0 and not SuSE 7.1? Any ideas? I'd still like to convert this box to SuSE 7.1 before I get too far along setting it up. Can I upgrade from RH 7.0 to SuSE 7.1? Thanks for your thoughts. -Kevin Zembower ----- E. XFree86 3.3.6 Problems

Hello, I'm still trying to get XFree86 3.3.6 setup on my laptop under SuSE7.1. At the moment I have 4.02 working fine but SO5.2 isn't working so I thought that maybe things would work better under the previous version of X. Root has sound, user doesn't

I'm running SuSE 7.1 with KDE. When I log in as root, I get the startup sound; when I log in as an ordinary user, I don't. I've looked at the settings in the Control Center and I can't find any that differ. Also, when I try to test a system sound as root, it works; when I do that as a user, it doesn't. The permissions for /etc/sndstat are crw-rw-rw-. Any suggestions about what the cause might be or how to investigate this? Paul Abrahams

Netscape not marking messages as read correctly

Hi all, I'm trying to move from Netscape to mutt/pine, but Netscape doesn't seem to be marking messages as 'read' correctly. Netscape is supposed to use standard mbox format, apart from their .summary files, so I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem. If I open, say, ~/.netscape/mail/Inbox in mutt or pine, the vast majority of messages are marked as new (other than 6 or 7, which are marked as 'read' for some unknown reason). In Netscape, these messages have definitely been marked as read. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate anything at all, as I've been working at this on and off for 4 or 5 months. RE:486 and NFS Install threads

hey, along the lines of the 486 and NFS install threads which are currently being discussed, i have a 486 with a 3com ethernet card and was wondering if anyone knew how to get the MAC address of the card, i have done NFS install with tftpboot on some sparcs and they show the MAC address when you first turn on the machine, so how to find it on a i386 box? Hello! As setting up a "tulip" PCI network card was very easy, I can't figure out how to configure a D-Link ISA network card DE-220PCT. I tried to load the ne2000 / ne1000 (ISA) module but it doesn't seem to work. Please help as I can't go much further without network (cable net connection)! Thank you in advance! Patrick
