Hey folks, Strange question here... does anyone have CD1 from an old SuSE 6.1 disk set? I'm looking for the one which shows the following line when you 'Change/Create Configuration' in YaST: Source media: SuSE-Linux-international-i386 6.1.1-1 And it should have this file in the root directory of the CD: .S.u.S.E-disk-001.1999041916 Basically, I had an accident with this CD and it doesn't work now. My main workstation is still running 6.1, and I have no intention of upgrading this soon... I *really* need this CD. All my other machines run 7.0 (and hopefully 7.1 soon). Would someone be kind enough to upload an ISO of the CD to an FTP site somewhere? Or even post a copy to me via snail-mail, if they're very kind ;-) Please reply off-list. Samba printers under 7.1

Hi, I recently upgraded (well fresh install) from SuSE 7.0 to 7.1. Ever since then I can't get the network printers on the windows machines in the office to work. They used to work fine under 7.0. I am installing them with Yast2. I am not using CUPS. I can send the test pages to the printers but they come out very wrong. The most important one to get working is an Epson Stylus Colour 600 on a Win95 box. It prints about 6cms of green gecko with white horizontal stripes then moves on to the next page and prints a vague outline of the next bit of the test page then next page. That's as far as I let it go before deleting the job. What changed from 7.0 to 7.1 (apart from kernel 2.4.2 that I'm using) that might account for this? Any suggestions gratefully received, Thanks, Mark

The system time drifts under suse7.1.

ello. My system time isn't stable under suse7.1. It works ok under suse6.3 and 6.4 and redhat7.0. See output examples below: Example from redhat7.0: As you can see, the value for second is =0 and stable. Hourly images for 2001-4-2 18:50:0. Hourly images for 2001-4-2 18:51:0. Example from suse7.1: As you can see the second is unstable. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:6:15. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:7:16. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:8:17. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:9:17. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:10:18. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:11:19. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:12:20. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:13:21. Hourly images for 2001-3-22 15:14:22. As you can see the error is about one second per minute. Does anyone have the solution to this problem? (I have browsed the lists.) I am not interested in problems with setting daylight saving and/or using a server to correct the time. suspend and resume

Hi, Is there a way to run a command on resume (kbdrate). My laptop (Dell I 7000) resets rate to slow as part of the suspend and resume cycle. At present I have to manually speed up the keyboard rate. Have looked at pmd.rc.config and at rcconfig. Any suggestions as to where such a command night go - or another workaround. Many thanks Francesco

Hi This , and a couple of other error messages in /var/log/warn since updating to 2.4.2-4GB kernel,modutils,and ppp suse-rpm's . I'm trying to keep with my 7.0 stuff as much as is possable - while trying to update only what is required by the new kernel series. SuSE-7.0 - update problems - <>View of /var/log/warn <> execv /usr/sbin/in.identd: No such file or directory /usr/sbin/in.identd: exit status 0x1 ident/tcp server failing (looping), service terminated modprobe: Can't locate module ppp0 <> something to do with changes in archetecture of new kernels - modules - ppp - ?? mc: /dev/gpmctl: No such file or directory midnight commander find-rotating-slash dosn't work anymore - even after reinstalling mc - bash - , and ncurses - the error still persists . maybe I need to reinstall /dev 's ?? kmail not printing

Hi Suse folks, I upgraded to KDE 2.1.0 the other week and have not been able to print from within Kmail since then. I'm running 6.4 and have a printer configured via samba to a printer on a win95 machine. I can print via all other apps with no problem. It's just when I try to print an email out in Kmail that nothing happens. Any ideas of what needs to be ammended in a script or whatever greatly appreciated. TIA -- Cheers Bruce

Updating with Yast2 vs Yast1

Yast1 has a capability for going to the SuSE FTP site and selecting modules for update from the ones available there. I can't find anything corresponding to that capability in Yast2. Am I missing something? Another related question: is there a way to change the default FTP site known to Yast1 to be one of the SuSE mirrors instead of SuSE itself? Is that information hiding, perhaps, in some configuration file for Yast? Paul Abrahams

Graphical boot prompt on 7.1

is # or ! a comment?

I don't think I was clear enough in my earlier question about comment characters. An example of what I'm talking about: In my 7.1 installation the /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources file uses the "!" character to start comment lines and puts the "#" character before IF, ENDIF, ELSE type statements. This confused me because I thought that the "#" character *always* meant the start of a comment line. Is this file (/etc/X11/xdm/Xresources) a shell script? If so why does it use the "#" character in this way? cheers james. Can't export file systems into SuSE 7.1

I've added the file system to be exported into the file /etc/exports, and restart the nfs server with the command "rcnfsserver restart". I've got the following error "Starting kernel based NFS server lockdsvc : Invalid argument. When I run the exportfs command, the file system seems to be exported for all. And when I tried to mount this file system from another linux box, I've got the followin error: permission denied. And on the server: rpc.mountd: refused mount request : no export entry. If anybody can help me solving this trouble. Regards Pascal MiQUET
