Stopping cron Messages?

I want to run fetchmail out of crontab but I don't want to get messages in /var/log/messages everytime it runs. I thought that I could do this by using the following but it isn't working. What am I missing?? /usr/bin/fetchmail > /dev/null 2 > &1 Note: I left out the rest of the line on purpose. That I have working. Hi, I fully agree with keeping Yast. I'm not using X-windows, because my linux box is only running as a router, mailserver, etc in a network. It doesn't even have a keyboard and monitor connected to it. So I prefer using a terminal emulator to maintain that machine. Sound and char major errors

Hi folks, Got some probles wit 7.1 1/ getting some errore cant find module chare-major-116 , any idea wha6t this is ? 2/ sound is not woking right , am only getting a hum out the speakers. I have a sound balaster pci 128 , sound was picked up on install , but is not working. THhhis card is cliamed to be suported by 2.2 kernal and up. I am running the 2.4 kernal. I tried a modprobe es1371 but it could not find it. So how do I get this working ? somthing is wrong here. Thanks Samy

is there a way to force SUSE 7.1 to use yast1 to update from 6.3 or is there a really recommened way to do it? i have been trying to get 7.1 to update my 6.3 but i cant seem to get the x-windows to wrk at all and 7.1 never asks for any of the cds other than #1.. and it only gets through about 20% of the update and then it says that it want to boot my system.. if this is normal please let me know and if it isnt please let me know... thanx in adavance for any help tim ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

FW: Urgent Laptop Help Needed

So, no out there has encountered this problem before? Or can help me with it? Thanks! CK I am attempting to install SuSE 7.0 (eval) on to a Fujitsu 420D Loafbook with no floppy (it has been gone for years). This is a pentium 120 machine with 48MB of ram. The system boots off the CD fine until I get to the choose language dialog box (text based install, not yast2). When I get the this screen, the floppy disk image on the status LCD lights up (searching for a floppy I suppose). It stays on for quite a while then disappears. At the point of this language selection screen, the computer seems to be frozen. I am kinda assuming it has something to do with no floppy being attached. Anyone ever seen this type of problem before? And, oddly enough, I installed Debian 2.2 successfully earlier today (but I really want to run SuSE as that is the shop standard). Thanks Much! IP MASQ

I wonder if anyone can please help me with setting up Masquerade. I am a new user and am reaching desperation point. I have a small home network my machine is a dual boot WinME and SuSE 7.0. Linux is working bequtifully. I can dial to my ISP and use the web and email with no problem. We have two other home computers all networked via ethernet. All this works fine in windows. I have insalled SQUID which also works well and the other machines can use the web with no problem. It is important that the other machines are able to use email, CIQ etc when I am working in linux therefore I would like to set up IP MASQ. I use an external 56k WebExcel modem. I have tried and tried with MASQ and am totally frustrated especially as it all sounds so easy. I know I have the modem wrong in the config file as ModProbe reports it can't find the module modem on boot up and there is an error message that the modem is fault (which I know it isn't). I have included the meaty bits from my /etc/rc.config.d/firewall.rc.config under and ask please, please, could someone tell me what obvious newby type error I am making and I will be grateful for ever. monitor power management

Both of my monitors (at work and home) are capable of power management, and have worked beautifully under other operating systems and (if I recall correctly) under ealier versions of SuSE. I am currently running SuSE 7.1 with the 2.4 kernel and KDE 2.1. I have the power management features enabled in KDE Control Center. Xset also reports that power management is enabled. However, the monitor remains on if after 24 hours of non use!! Has anyone else had similar problems? Is there something that I am missing or have overlooked? Would be grateful for any advice or help.
