Once again, I have managed to unfairly condemn a product when the shortcoming was mine. Open mouth insert foot {:-/>. I used YaST 2 to set up my HP DeskJet 970Cse and sure as the sky it gave me the duplex option. Not quite as full featured as the Windows HP software, but it works very well. My sincere apologies to both SuSE and HP. Steve

Actually, I didn't have to do much. I'm using the stock kernels (2.4 usually) so they already have parallel port and SCSI support (& low-level drivers) built in (or as modules anyway). In previous versions I had to roll my own kernel to get the parallel, SCSI & zip drive support - just as you described one of your other posts. For 7.1 all I had to do was add the following to my /etc/init.d/boot.local file: modprobe imm On the next reboot I saw that the zip drive had been correctly identified. I use imm instead of ppa because my drive is one of the "newer" ones (although I've had it for years) which has "Autodetect" inscribed on the cable connector. So it seems that it DOES work just like it has in past versions - I don't understand why it doesn't work for you now. Oh, by the way, I only have one parallel port so both my printer & zip are on the same port. Didn't you say you had 2 parallel ports (though I shouldn't think that would make much difference). KDE 2.1 as YaST auto-update

I see that Qt 2.2.4 and KDE 2.1 are on the usual mirrors, but where are they on SuSE's site? That's a GOOD idea. I've a 486 in my closet, but cannot get it running...I think the IDE controller is fried...can't get it to boot up the hard drive. I don't want to let it go since I KNOW I can do something functional with it but I don't know if it's worth buying a controller card that may cost more than the whole computer is worth. I may have to hit EBay and find a crapped 486 for scraps or just find a decent 486 from EBay and throw my crapped out 486 away. I think AbiWord has the same function. It can convert the documents it reads to .pdf files. I tried this tonight to get some notes that I've had laying around into my PDA device...this IS the same format that PDAs (Palm here) use, right? [SLE] 486 dx 33 under linux

Hi mates, after again more and more differences oon the german list, on trustfully come to you and ask you... I got some old 486dx33-isa computer as a present. it has 2400 baud internal, optics at 8000 cdrom, 2x 200 mb at hdd, isa ne2000 included. Fstab problem

Hi all Thanks to Tor for his help on the ide-scsi problem. Just a simple question thats been bugging me for the last couple of hours. After putting hdc=ide-scsi into lilo to give me scsi emulation for my burner on hdc, what needs changing in /etc/fstab to get the burner working normally? The drive is a Samsung DVD/CD-Writer which works when using xcdroast. When I try and mount the drive normally I get :could not mount /cdrom. /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device. The relevent lines in fstab are: /dev/cdrecorder /cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/cdrom /cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 I guess it is something really simple.
