Apache SSL on SuSE Linux 7.0

Hi, is there a document or step-by-step help how to configure Apache with mod_ssl on SuSE Linux 7.0? All settings are done, VirtualHosts are running (w/o SSL), syntax of httpd.conf is ok (httpd -S), but after including my ssl configuration rcapache (re)start fails. TJ

I think I had to edit the script to get it to run properly. eth0 by dhcp eth0:0 static - is that possible ?

Hi, I have a very nice question that'll probably answered tomorrow but I wanted to ask you guys first. I have one eth0 interface which gets an IP (if lucky) from the cable network provider. When I push in another card as eth1 the system goes crazy and only one interface is avaliable on every boot and this changes constantly. I think this is because of a buggy mainboard. So I plan to try this out: - Plug the cable modem to the hub, - Configure eth0 as 0.0.0.0 through the /sbin/init.d/dhclient script, - Configure a virtual interface on eth0 as eth0:0 and set a statis configuration for this, - Get the eth0 configuration from the DHCP server residing on the brain-dead cable provider. - Get masquerading running on eth0:0 Have any of you tried this before ? Any hints and clues for me ? Any help would appriciated ! Koray

HELP: rpm uses vasts amounts of memory and dies

I have posted this problem before, but I didn't get any answers. Problem: when I try to install some la(but not all) rpm -packages almost all of the RAM (160 Mb) and the SWAP (2 * 200M) gets eaten up and the rpm-proces is killed by the kernel. The syslog gives no clues. Tried solutions: Change rpm from 3.05 to 3.04, build rpm.rpm from source and install, increase swap by adding a swap-file of 1 Gb. Any pointer to what could posibly cause this is most welcome! Thankx in advance! Anders

interactive password for wvdial

Is it possible to setup the wvdial configuration so that wvdial prompts for a password after it has sent the userid and received a password prompt from the ISP. Every time I login a new, unique, password is required and hence I cannot install it into the configuration file for wvdial. ppp can't load plugin

Hi all! I'm trying to set a connection server for my forthcoming ADSL connection but meanwhile I had to use it with my current 56k modem. anonymous ftp under SuSE Pro 7.0

Hi uname -a : Linux <hostname> 2.2.16-SMP #1 Wed Aug 2 20:01:21 GMT 2000 i686 unknown How do I get anonymous ftp working under SuSE Pro 7.0? I have the following entry in /etc/passwd: ftp::40:2:ftp account:/usr/local/ftp:/bin/bash /etc/shadow is being used on this system (as per default SuSE 7.0 install) but I removed the ftp entry there and modified the password field in /etc/passwd so that no password is set. When I try to ftp in as 'anonymous' I get the following error after the entering any thing at the password prompt: 530 Login incorrect ftp: Login failed Regular users CAN ftp in correctly. /etc/inetd.conf: ftp stream ftp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.ftpd The file /etc/nologin does not exist The file /etc/ftpusers does not contain the user ftp In earlier versions of SuSE the ftpd always appeared under ps auxw (I think). Now under version 7.0 it is only displayed under ps when a ftp client tries/has connected to the ftpd. Any ideas what I need to get anonymous ftp to work? Many thanks in advance regards Garry

Hi all, I just happen to install 3Dfx V3. Even though card works fine I seem to have problems with 3D acceleration. All required packages are installed but what I get is software not hardware acceleration. I wonder if someone on that list has any experience in that area? Thanks, Peter

Hi all, Does somedy experience to installing and configuring the following devices during SuSE 7 Pro? (or other for example RH, Caldera) 1. CalComp Creation Station Pro pressure sensitiv digitizer tablet. (or UltraSlate) 2. Large format scanners. (A0 size or bigger) Colortrac, CalComp, etc. 3. Large format plotters. A0 or bigger. HP-RTL or CCRF protocol are invited. I'm searching solutions to MUTOH and CalComp plotters during Linux. Ideas, experiences, suggestion are welcome. regards Csaba Bajko

SuSe insists /dev/sda is the boot device and that my external data disk is /dev/sda

Got an IBM Netfinitiy 4500R box which started out with just a ServeRAID 3LS adapter. Configured it for RAID one on two of three internal hard disks and left the third disk untouched. Installed SuSe 7.0 Linux. At that point, it was a working system where the RAID one pair is /dev/sda and where Linux lives on both /boot and /. Now I install a PCI Ultra 160 SCSI card to connect external hardware RAID. Ran into lots of issues with IRQ conflicts, but eventually solved them by putting the ServeRAID card into PCI slot 1 (the 32-bit bus) and the PCI SCSI card into PCI slot 5 (part of the 64-bit bus). (Originally, the ServeRAID was in slot 5, but the BIOS has been told they were moved and it correctly finds the /boot partition and executes LILO. With the external hardware RAID unattached, Linux sees the internal RAID one disk as /dev/sda and everything goes OK. But with the external hardware RAID attached to the PCI SCSI card, it insists on calling the external hardware RAID /dev/hda and the internal RAID one disk /dev/hdb. The internal SCSI of the computer was disabled (it's not attached to any drive anyway), and so was the bios scan on the PCI SCSI card to which external hardware RAID is attached. The bootup now results in the error VFS: Cannot open root device 08:03 Kernel panic: VFS : unable to mount root fs on 08:03 Why does SUSE insist that the external RAID disk is /dev/sda? (How does it even manage to find it before it finds the internal disks?) Interestingly, booting from the SUSE CD ROM correctly sees the internal RAID one disk as /dev/sda and the external RAID as /dev/sdc (the untouched internal disk is /dev/sdb). I tried editing /etc/lilo.conf to make the boot disk /dev/hdb, which is what it is when the external RAID is attached, but it doesn't make a difference.
