[SLE] Suse 6.2 and Compaq Presario 5240 Soundcard

Hi All, I re-installed linux from scratch, after running it a few weeks just for testing. Now, with the first installation my soundcard was working properly. I discovered it with pnpdump, etc. However, when I run pnpdump now, it doesn't see my soundcard anymore. In windows it' still working, and I didn't change anything on pnp level. Anybody have any suggestions? [SLE] Anyone gotten the Creative ModemBlaster PCI (Digicom DI5630) running?

Hi, I'm trying to use a Creative ModemBlaster PCI (formerly DigiCom 5630) with the v6.3 distro. The SDB says, for PCI modems in general, to add a manual configuration that tells the kernel how the BIOS configures the card. scanpci shows an I/O region at 0xdc00 and the IRQ line reg is 0x0b, so I put this line into /sbin/rc.d/serial /sbin/setserial /dev/ttyS2 irq 0x0b port 0xdc00 This doesn't seem to work and I'm stuck -- does a driver exists for the 5630 or has anyone gotten this to work with similar steps? People are tired of paying ever-rising licensing fees to get buggier software and jacking Gates networth to higher billions." Yes, that is exactly why it is ready for the desktop. My wife uses Netscape, WordPerfect, and Kmail (probably will replace Kmail with something else). No crashes since we stopped booting into NT so she is happier than before. There may be a few apps that are still not quite ready on Linux, such as Gnucash, but damn, there are excellent games now with more coming, there are several WPs with decent compatability with Word, and for a CEO to say the things he did is just selling the product short. [SLE] All-in-Wonder 128 and Xi and 6.4 (and...)

I just took a look at xig.com's list of gfx drivers, hoping to find one that will work with an All-in-Wonder 128. On the page at: http://www.xig.com/Pages/3D-LGD-List.html .. I found the board listed, but no driver (yet?) available for DL. I do see drivers for the ATI Rage Fury Pro, Rage Fury, and Rage Magnum however. Any chance that any of these will work? Are the chipsets similar enough? It doesn't have to be perfect, just good enough to give me a good idea of how the board performs so I can decide if I want to keep it or not. BTW, I was able to get the board working using XFree 3.3.6 upgrade RPM from the SuSE ftp site. I had to use xf86config to set it up, and the "no_accel" option in XF68Config s still needed to get readable text. However, with that it is working in X, albeit slowly. Is the support in 3.9.18(?) any better? With 4.0 so close I'm not sure I want to get into that though. :) Will 4.0 be on the 6.4 SuSE distr or are the releases too far out of phase? If not, will there be an update at some point to update whatever comes out with 6.4 to XFree 4.0? I need/want to get 6.4 (using 6.1 now) to upgrade the glibc but I don't want to upgrade again until the 2.4 kernels come out and have been beaten on a bit. [SLE] root password problems

I was just brought on as sysadmin at a firm and, lucky me, no one remembers any of the passwords... I went in to the SuSE gateway off a floppy and edited out the root password which got me in fine, I reset the password fine, yet the box still will not recognize the root password... [SLE] laptop

I have read the recent post of many laptop questions so I figured I would post my own for help :-). I run a NEC Versa 6030H with a Zircom ethernet adapter. I want to get rid of windows that is running and install Suse 6.1 which is the only distr. I have right now :-(. Has anybody got this to work, or is there any problems I should look out for? [SLE] Fatal Server error - xfsft - TTFonts

Hello, I've installed xfsft according to directions on a HOW-TO. I redid this HOW-TO and put down every single step, command line by command line in getting TrueType fonts working. It can be found in it's current rough state at http://www.firstnethou.com/gz/xfsft_HOW-TO.html But it's not working! I When I do startx I get "Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed'". If I comment out the line FontPath "tcp/localhost:7100" in XF86Config then I can start X just fine. By the way, this may give a clue. I did: xfs -port 7100 -config /etc/xfs.conf then just open up another console and do ps ax|grep xfs and I get root@host-name:/usr/home/russian > ps ax |grep xfs 2820 ? S 0:00 xfs -port 7100 -config /etc/xfs.conf 2846 ? S 0:00 grep xfs which is good. So then I do /usr/X11R6/bin/fslsfonts -server localhost and I get nothing. No fonts, nothing. Does this mean that the TrueTypes are not loaded? What about the command xlsfonts It list tons of fonts. How do you tell the TrueTypes from the Type 1 ? Is there a way to list just the TrueType fonts? Any ideas? I don't have Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier in place yet. I have others like Verdana ect though. [SLE] muffed printer queue...

For about 12 minutes last week I had my SuSE Linux box, 2 windows computers and 3 mac computers all using a HP6MP connected to my SuSE Linux box. After initial success, something happened and I started getting mostly blank pages with some little graphic nonsense printed at the top. The pages would not stop coming out of the printer. I killed something (the queue it looks like) and I have not been able to print since. I have read and done most everything I could understand from the SuSE manual chapter 12, but I can't get the printer to work anymore at all. Things go to the queue and stay there. I just figured out how to clear the queue, but the printer still does not work. lpq -P queue produces a 'queue' does not exist message Is there is easy way to re-establish the queue? Or can I easily erase/reinstall the printer stuff from scratch.
