[SLE] Stupid Question...sigh

I hate to bother people with this, but I'd like to know if there is an equivilant to the append= lines from a lilo.conf for systems that don't use lilo? I'd like to add that line, but since I have to dual boot and don't use lilo as my boot manager it won't work for me. Any suggestions? I'm with Jon on this, I'd definitely only use one frame buffer (unless you've got multiple different video cards). You will need to select VGA text console (this is the vgacon mentioned in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/fb/matroxfb.txt) in menuconfig (not VESA VGA nor VGA 16) in addition to what Jon has already recommended. I remember Philipp (who is running the matroxfb) posting some modifications he made to his lilo.conf to get it set up properly. I don't have Philipp's mods on hand but it was fairly recently and should be in the archives. I ran vesafb with vga=790 on my laptop prior to XFree support for my chipset. It seemed to work quite well at the time. I can live without changing modes on the fly but the blinking cursor really annoys me when I'm using the fb because it's alot brighter than the one in text mode. Hello, I'm running into problems installing programs that others have installed, but then forgot how they did it. If you are going to tackle something of some difficulty, log your steps and commands, so that even a Newbie can follow it. Down to the cd /usr/whater mkdir etc. Even if you don't know what you are doing, if you get it working, then you know enough. Just a thought. [SLE] Problems with re-compiled kernel

I tried to compile a kernel last night to include matroxfb support and apm. I compiled from the linux-2.2.13.Suse directory. When I rebooted it blanked the screen soon after I picked the new kernel from lilo so I had no console. It sounded like it booted completely but I couldn't see anything. Anyway, I chose matrox framebuffer support for the G200 and vga16 framebuffer support. Could this have been the problem? I thought per the readme you need the vga support in case you remove your Matrox card. Or is the problem tied to screen blanking in APM?
