in suse 6.3 when i logout the whole process ends wtih a freze of proses management ended run level 0 but it stalls there normal? Hi, I need some advice on debugging my dhcp/network problem. I'm about to smash the #!#%^Z computers and find something else to do with my life. I'm trying to setup a 2nd machine as a firewall. Got 3 3COM 3C905C-TX NIC's. Two in the firewall and one in the workstation with a cross-over cable between the workstation and eth1 on the firewall. I can get the firewall machine up and connected via dhcp but within the same day or next dhcp will quit working. I have tried both ISC's dhclient and dhcpcd. I'm using dhcpcd on the workstation without any problem. The order of events: 1. Installed SuSE 6.3 and built a monolithic kernel so I could use the harden_suse script. This scripts seems to not allow modules. Within two days the 3C90X driver started to fail each time it was loaded. 2. By this time OpenBSD 2.6 CD had arrived. Installed and their ISC DHCP client got an IP. OpenBSD was running my crappy Maxtor HD at either PIO4 or DMA2 and I started getting time-out errors during boot up. Very annoying. 3. Installed old Advansys SCSI controller & Quantum HD. OpenBSD performance went up. Next day, fail during Advansys driver init dropped into debugger and halted. Same on every subsequent boot. 4. Gave up for about a week. During this time roadrunner's server screwed up and wouldn't assign an IP to the workstation. Tried different brand NIC even M$ OS. RR didn't tell me what they did to fix it. Also, during this time I ran 3Com's dos diag program on all three NIC's including the echo test. All passed. 5. Put IDE driver back in firewall machine and set bios to run it at PIO3. Installed OpenBSD. This time dhclient timed out, no IP. Exactly the symptom when RR was screwed up. I reconnect the workstation and it connected with no problem. 6. Put SuSE 6.3 back on the firewall. I was able to connect via NFS to the workstation to get all the updates I had downloaded. Now, one would expect the ISC dhclient not to work. WRONG! ISC's client would work, dhcpcd woudl not! I installed the same dhcpcd version that I have on the workstation. Compiled it the same way, installed it into the dhclient script the same way. All it would do is timeout stating it never received a reply to DHCP Discover. 7. So, at least one client is working. I then configured SuSE's firewall and started it. Since I wasn't sure I setup the firewall correclty I was not surprised when dhclient failed. I then disabled SuSE_firewall, rebooted and promptly saw dhclient continue to fail. Now on each subsequent reboot whether it be with dhclient/dhcpcd or warm boot/cold boot and including cycling power on the cable modem I get not IP! Would tools like tcpdump, etc. help me? When the dhcp client times out on its dhcp discover messages is the server sending any kind of response? Anyone have any debug ideas???? OR do I have a hardware problem. ASUS P55T2P4 MB, P133, 64MB EDO RAM Maxtor 72700AP 2.5GB IDE. master on IDE0 Panasonic 24X CD-ROM, slave on IDE0 3.5" FD Matrox Millenium 2MB PCI video Panasonic C1381 Monitor 2 X 3COM905C-TX NIC's Flaky things about this machine: Maxtor HD claims PIO4 & DMA2 but doesn't work well at those settings so I have it set to PIO3 which works well. The monitor will scroll contantly(out of sync) unless the cable is attached just right. Either cable problem or signals from video card. The motherboard is held down with plastic standoffs except for two points at the back where there are metal screws with no insulating washer. I have observed in the past that this can cause a problem if a the screw head or threads are making contact with a trace. Could the grounding be bad and that's whats causing the monitor to go out of sync? I've checked with a DVM and haven't found anything. I do have another motherboard, an Abit PII. I didn't want to buy another ATX case and power up another Intel House Heater CPU. [SLE] Firewall Script in 6.3

Hi, I created a mailserver using SuSE 6.3 for multiple domains. All users get their mail, but when sending mail the the receiver gets the wrong emailadres. For example: mailserver is domain1.com User is user(a)domain2.com When sending it says user(a)domain1.com, which doesn't exist. I created a sendmail.cw for the multiple domains and a virtusertable. Do I also need a genericstable?? Try this for PPP on NT. It was originally posted at linux-greek-users(a)hellug.gr (the archives are at lists.hellug.gr) from Evripidis Papakostas (evris(a)hellug.gr) when there was a problem with callback feature on RAS and that patch solved it. Hi there, IŽm new using SuSE 6.2, trying connect to the NT4.0 with service-pack 4. When using "wvdial" (1.4), PAP/CHAP enabled, the following appears from my " /var/log/message " pppd [513] : pppd 2.3.8 started by root, udi 0 pppd [513] : Using interface ppp0 pppd [513] : Connect : ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0 pppd [513] : Sent [LCP ConfRec id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xa4dd28c3> <pcomp> <accomp> ] last message repeated 9 times pppd[513] : LCP : timeout sending Config-Requests pppd[513] : Connection terminated. pppd[513] : Exit. Also on the NT-server IŽve only set "Accept any authenication including clear text", and only TCP/IP-sevices are enabled in RAS. Thanks in advance for any and all pointers you can give me.
