I have just placed my linux box at an ISP for colocation. The host address for the moment is acme.celticweb.com I executed sbin/init.d/apache stop There should be no web server! But there is! I think thttpd is what is running. I would like to be running apache instead. How do I find where thttpd starts, why it's there, etc. Should I remove it? [SLE] How to make orig. SuSE Boot Disk

Boot the SuSE CD 1. Set the colour and language, then you have the option to boot an existing system (you need to know the device name which the root filesystem is on). Up it comes...and if it does you can use 'mount' and look at /etc/fstab to check all the partitions are mounted OK. Keith > -----Original Message----- > From: Stanley C. [SLE] Bug in sample ftp dir for suse 6.2

See subject. I couldn't figure out why we couldn't get anonymous ftp working on SuSE 6.2, when it worked fine on a remote 6.0 site we manage Exactly the same versions of wu.ftpd on both, and all the permissions matched. It turns out the version of ls in the sample ftp dir /usr/local/ftp/bin/ls seems to be broken. By restoring the ls binary from the 6.0 version I now have a perfectly working anonymous ftp. Thanks. I have got it working!!!!!! Nothing wrong with Suse or the SCSI devices. Problem solved by swopping out one of the processors. It seems that they were not the same step. Replaced it, booted the machine and SUCCESS!! This really flies !! No just have to add some more memory. i saw that the machine was swapping. Thanks for your advice. I also prefer to compile the SCSI and NIC into the kernel. Is there any performance gain/loss in doing this rather that building the modules. The problem I ran into is that a2ps scales the font up to fill the page, but its extra-wide margins cut off the ends of the lines, prompting my concern with margin control. Doesn't your setup cut off the ends of the lines, Juergen? FWIW, one person responded to my query on comp.periphs.printers saying that physical margins for "most HP printers" are 0.33 inches, so the printer itself should be able to fill the page with text. After unpacking the apsfilter-4.9.9 package from metalab.unc.edu, I see the documentation has been amplified, and the author notes that the wide margins are compiled in to a2ps. So I guess the answer to my particular margin problem is to edit some source and re-compile. Oh well... Thanks for the responses. It sounds as though most folks use their printers with GUI editors and let those editors handle the subtleties. [SLE] Getting SuSE 6.2

I would like a copy of SuSE 6.2 but the only places I can find to purchase it are going to charge me insane amounts. Something to the tune of $100. Now, I already have a copy of SuSE 6.0 and like it alot, but I was hoping I could upgrade to 6.2 for some glibc2 based Linux. Does anyone know where I can download 6.2? I do not need the manuals. Could someone create an ISO image of the first ( possibly 2 ) CD(s)? I don't need all the apps either, those can be downloaded seperatly. Or, perhaps someone knows what to get from the suse ftp server.
