[SuSE Linux] X includes (where are they?)

I tried to 'make configure' for KSCAN (a SANE front end for KDE), and the compile failed with the message (from memory here) "can't find X includes, check install configuration and add the correct path(s)". On the other machines we are running the pcmcia that we downloaded from the web (after we put the 2.0.35 kernel on 5.2, and rebuilt, the pcmica didn't get built when we did the modules. So we just downloaded the tar file and made it.). Let me know where I can ftp the boot disks or however. Downloading and make the PCMCIA tar file (newer version) solved it. SuSE 5.2 worked out of the box. 5.3 fails. Can't say if it would have worked after install, since I did a 5.2 and then upgraded to 5.3 to get around it. [SuSE Linux] Installing SuSE, NT and Win98 in one machine - question

Hi folks, I plan to install SuSE, WinNT and Win98 at one machine. I do not have much experience with LLinux, so any advice would be appreciated. I have 6.5 GB HDD andI would like to have the following space for the systems: 3 GB NT 2 GB SuSE rest Win98. I have a lot questions: 1) How large swap partition to create (64 MB RAM). I've heard, that Linux, NT and Win98 can share one swap partition, is that right? How to manage that? 2) How to repartition HDD. Is it true, that Linux has to be gin underfirst 1024 cylinders? Should I create different partitions for root and the rest? how muchnspace for root partiotion? 3) How to proceed during instalation, what install first, how to repartition HDD, using Linux's fdisk? 4) How to choose which system to boot? To use lilo, NT Loader? I have also System Commander 4.0, which was highly recommended to me? Do you have any experience with it? And how to proceed with installing boot manager? Please, help me, i am a bit lost!!!! [SuSE Linux] New to SuSE

Hi, I subscribed to this list about 2 weeks ago because I was interested in SuSE and wanted to get a feel for it. What I read here was enough to peak my interest and so I decided to give SuSE a spin. I ordered one of those $1.99 cd's of SuSE 5.2 from www.cheapbytes.com and just got done installing that puppy. I'm impressed big time! : - ) As soon as I know that Border's is gonna be able to get SuSE 5.3 I'll be buying the "Official" release. Just thought I'd share that with you. [SuSE Linux] Printer problems with 5.3

Hi all, I'm just configuring my system from my first Suse (5.3)installation after running RedHat for a year or so. I switched because there was a couple of products (here and coming) which I think would work better under Suse, and I must say I like the attitude of the Suse group here, but... I have run Linux for a while (yggdrasil, slackware, Redhat) and I gotta say the Suse installation/config is not a slam dunk. I'm having several issues that I'm working through. The manual is helpful but still... I currently am trying to get my Epson Stylus 600 to work. I choose 'stcolor' under YaST and it says all is well but all I get 1is or two garbage characters per page. Anybody got it going? I also can't compile WindowMaker either, but I'll tackle that one next. I LOVE WindowMaker and am stuck with KDE for now. When I first found this mail group, I was about to receive my copy of 5.3. I wanted to see what was going on in the SuSE community since I had become deeply frustrated trying to gain aid from those in RedHat land. No offence to them as a whole, but some very rude individuals roam the newsgroups, ostensibly to help but really just lying in wait to flame inept newbies. I fit that definition to a couple, so I stopped asking any questions. I could see that RedHat 5.1 was broken and I wasn't in a mood to try and salvage it amid flame wars. I have enough experience in my past with chat to understand beyond need for reminding when to quit speaking publicly. Here, when I first received 5.3, I appeared to have been the first on this continent, quite literally. I simply placed my order before it was released. I don't know why some are still waiting. I was told it would come in the first week of Sept and it was here last Monday. Scott Winterton at SuSE was very helpful and kept me informed. I admit, however, that I probably bugged him until he sent it by overnight express, when they did. :) To the point, this group feels very comfortable. There is a wealth of experience here and compassion. I saw a couple of rude remarks about someone's leaving, but not from those who write daily. For me, Michael, your wisdom would have been sorely missed. Thanks for peering back inside. I don't know what everyone else thinks and I won't pretend to guess. My desire is to build a computer devoid of Gatesware, period. Linux looks like the best alternative to me, although I guess I could simply buy a Mac. I was brought kicking and screaming to this conclusion by my most recent experience with Microsoft IE40 and Outlook Express when I allowed what I thought was a benign upgrade of these two programs by the Microsoft website. Perhaps nobody cares, but if you have read this far Microsoft virtually turned my box into a Windows 98 lab rat with that maneuver. It does everything but splash the Win 98 logo. Now IE40, which used to be superb compared to NS (seriously, I think it is far better) is subject to the most bizarre faults and crashes. I won't go into it all here, this is not a forum. I just wanted to say that I really feel welcome in the SuSE arena. I feel they have the best concept of what a Linux user will want in their OS and you people (many more names than those that I have included) make it easy to continue trying. Even when I ask really stupid questions. Hope I haven't waxed too maudlin for you. Thank you all.
