[S.u.S.E. Linux] PPP script for thoes who do not know HOWTO set up PPP

This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------405F40D5A864BAE7528B12B8 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Attached is a PPP script Directions on use: file name: ppp.tar.gz 1)stick ppp.tar.gz in your hidden root directory : cd / 2) cd / 3) tar -zxvf ppp.tar.gz 4) edit (pico,vi,whatever) ppp.chatscipt in /etc/ a) with your information 5) edit (pico,vi,whatever) reslov.conf in /etc/ *YAST will set this part also* a) with your isp's domain and nameserver I) domain yourisp.com nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 6) checkout ppp.options_out (see if its ok) in /etc/ 7) under root do these commands: a)cd /etc/ppp b) chown root:root * c) cd /etc d) chown root:root ppp* e) cd /usr/bin f) chown root:root pon poff 8) Your done! 9) to start a connection (u gota be root) (but you can log root off after it is ) (started.........................................) Type : pon 10) to stop a connection short of (turning off your modem) (throwing it out the window or unplugging the computer) Type : poff **make sure you have a symb link to your modem** if this doesn't work right off the bat** That's it, I do not under any circumstances hold any responsibility If you use this script ppp.tar.gz and anything goes wrong or you commit any wrong doing, it is YOUR responsibility. This is a just a simple ppp script, it does not set up anything other than ppp for you. Thou CHAP and PAP are in this script. I do not or will not tell you how to use them as all ISPs are different. If you have or are familiar with the HP 600C printer you will know that the printer at any one time has either or a black cartridge or a color cartridge but not both at the same time. So my first question is: 1. Should I have a separate color printer definition and a separate mono printer definition in my APSFILTER file(s)? It seems that the HP 550/560 file is closest to the 600. The second question: 2. I have tried printing with cat filename > /dev/lp1 and the result is the "staircase" effect? Is there a way to get around this when using this method or must lpr be used? These leads to the third question: 3. When I print a generic text file using lpr the result is a landscape printout using a very small font as opposed to the expected portrait printout using the default font of the printer. Should this be? Or do I have something set improperly, or not set? By the way, these really are fine-tuning questions...For the most part in other software my printer works fine. I can print color pages using xv (and gimp). Using Ghostview I can print PDF and PS files. I am just looking for answers on the things that should work properly but don't (like a simple text file). I'm trying to install 5.1 on an IBM Thinkpad 360X. The bootdisk keeps booting over and over, never getting anywhere. Any ideas? I'm having a problem with netatalk that perhaps someone could help me with. From my Mac, I can only mount volumes on the linux box as "guest", and not with my user account. The default config files contain the line that should enable each user to mount his home directory, namely ~ "Home" (I added only the label to the file that was auto-installed). Before installing SuSE Linux on my machine I tried out Debian, and didn't have this problem, though as far as I can see the netatalk config files are identical to what they were before, and despite having made no changes to the Mac's setup.
