[SuSE Linux] Database programing tools

Any one have some sugestions on basic datbase building tools that can hanle basec data enty forms and parent child data entry forms . Preferably something that can handle picl list and lookups . Ect... Any comments on msql , is it just a back end sql server , or does it have gui / data form tools ectt.. Any other sql data base tools that are east to use , and allow you to program base dat base apps ?? I have SuSE running fine on my machine. I use lilo to boot it and have lilo installed in the MBR. I want to add Solaris for some compatablility testing I am doing with some java code. Will lilo boot solaris? How do I dual boot these beasts without going to a floppy. [SuSE Linux] Limit to the maximum number of files that can be opened?

I am having trouble with an application that we recently ported to suse linux. We are getting errors when running reports that open more that 24-28 database files. We are using Faircom Ctree local database. It does not seem to be a database problem but a file limit problem. Is there a way to specify the maximum number of files that can be opened at a system or user level. We use other unix flavors also that we have had to do this to but I am at a loss as for where to start in linux(having already checked the kernel and yast and other files in the /etc dir). [SuSE Linux] SuSE 5.3 kernel compile for sound failed?

I've compiled a half dozen kernels for SuSE 5.2, and never had a bit of trouble getting sound. Then I did a fress install with SuSE 5.3, compiled the same 2.0.35 kernel I used in 5.2, and had it fail, saying that sound must be compiled seperately (or something to that effect, I didnt save the message). I have an HP laserjet 1100 which can print at 300x300 and 600x600 dpi. I configured the printer and the apsfilter with YaST. It was very easy to setup the printer. I added two entries for my printer in the /etc/printcap (using YaST) one for 300x300 dpi and one for 600x600 dpi. In /etc/printcap I have 2 blocks with 3 entries each (ascii, ps and raw). The first line refers to the printer name: i.e. ascii|lp1|ljet4-a4-ascii-mono-300|ljet4 a4 ascii mono 300:\ this means that I can print an ascii file with a resolution of 00 dpi with the a2ps filter with the command lpr -P PrinterName FileToBePrinted where PrinterName is one among ascii, lp1,ljet4... The corresponding line for a 600x600 dpi resolution is ljet4-ascii|lp4|ljet4-a4-ascii-mono-600|ljet4 a4 ascii mono 600:\ The shortest way to refer to a printing mode is lpN (where N is a number), but it is quite hard to remember that lp5 correspond to a Postscript printing mode with 600x600 dpi. I tried to edit by hand the /etc/printcap file adding a name, which I can easily remember, to the lines I mentioned above. Then I restarted lpd, but then when I type lpr -P PrinterName I get a "printer unknown" message. Suggestions are welcome. [SuSE Linux] X-server linking is perplexing.

Ok, This is probably something simple, but I've wondered this for awhile. Now I've seen people asking in comp.os.linux.misc } > Someone please explain why SuSE 5.2 makes /usr/X11R6/bin/X an alias } > to /var/X11R6/bin/X which points back to the server in /usr/X11R6/bin? Why isn't the link just in /usr/X11R6/bin pointing to the correct server? [SuSE Linux] Setting up XF86 and my G200 - Help
