Hello! I would like to know if there are any win 995 emulation libraries available for linux or any similar thing - anything to enable compilation of win progz to be compiled & used under linux ? I am actually asking this because I would like to use PGP higher than 5.0 in linux and Imad R. Faiad says he could do it if there were the libs so please do tell me if it is possible and where to get the libs. [SuSE Linux] 8-bit X cut&paste problem

Folks, I have a curious problem with cutting&pasting 8-bit characters between xterms, i.e. characters with the 8th bit set (such as Ÿ which has code 0xBE = 190 decimal). It arises when pasting into a window in which a remote machine is logged on, in which case the 8th bit is stripped (i.e. the above gets pasted in as ">" with code 0x3E = 62). Pasting into a window in which the local machine is logged on is OK -- the 8th bit is not stripped. In detail: On machine A: xterm windows: AA1 (machine A logged in) AA2 (machine A logged in) AB1 (machine B logged in) AB2 (machine B logged in) pasting AA1->AA2 : OK (8th bit not stripped) pasting AB1->AA2 : OK (8th bit not stripped) pasting AA1->AB1 : FU (8th bit stripped) pasting AB1->AB2 : FU (8th bit stripped) And it is exactly symmetrical by machine: going to machine B, On machine B: xterm windows: BB1 (machine B logged in) BB2 (machine B logged in) BA1 (machine A logged in) BA2 (machine A logged in) pasting BB1->BB2 : OK (8th bit not stripped) pasting BA1->BB2 : OK (8th bit not stripped) pasting BB1->BA1 : FU (8th bit stripped) pasting BA1->BA2 : FU (8th bit stripped) Can anyone (a) explain why this happens? (b) suggest a cure? If your kernel and everything is setup right.. Make a directory.. say something like /iomega Then do: mount -t msdos /dev/sda4 /iomega That should mount it.. I have no idea why dos formatted Zips are sda4.. But ext2 formatted ones are sda1... even if I just call "loadlin hda6" in my autoexec.bat, it still asks me for the name of my kernel image. I type in "zimage" and hten linux boots. Hello! I've noticed a couple of times when posting to this list that my name is not showing as the sender -- it shows "to suse". I'm fairly new to pine; have I missed a simple setting? By the way, SuSE Linux is proving to be a fantastic server platform at our agency. I've been working with AIX for years and SCO prior to that. I'm really enjoying the Linux experience! Hi I thing you hav't understood the boot process of linux. 1. step Wether if you use LILO or LOADLIN both are only resposible for load & start the linux kernel. This runs most the time. If you can read uncompressing kernel on screen, the kernel has been found and starts running.!!! But a linux kernel include NOT only some basic HW drivers but allmost every driver and like W95 this drivers perform an autoprobing. This part often failed (also like W95). To get started you can inform your kernel with kernel parameters. This is a liddle bit (or much) sophisticated but is supported by both loaders. Often it is more simple to get rid of critical HW (e.g. NE2000 cards often confuse SCSI driver) and recompile the kernel w/o the critical driver. If the kernel can be load&start, there is no need to change the partition table 'active' entry, because the load stubb is running. Only dos & m$win need to be started from a active partition. Linux, OS/2 and much others can start from everywhere. 2. step When all your hardware is found and initialised, the kernel try to mount a root file system (any disk/partition or RAMDISK with e.g. umsdos, ext2-fs etc.) This is indicated by seeing a list of all found disks and partitions on screen followed by search for root / found messages.

Hello all, I am a consultant specializing in PERL engineering in the UNIX admin arena, but #1 on my wish list is to be my own boss ( just like everybody else ). So I formed a sub-S corporation* and I am going to devote about 300f my efforts to fielding a Linux thin client. Enter the pc-on-a-chip dev box that I should be receiving in about a week. I will then start assembling the apropriate suse install for my little product. My real target will be to support emerging market nations especially in remote applications with the aim of bringing high content products to first world nations and supplying them with software aimed at creating more communications and independant management. I also have involvment with Caldera and hope to use their multi-tier organization on the server side, with a more traditional focus on business software. While I 100upport GPL and the Artistic License, many concerns using the open source OS's have been more than generous to our clique of ~10,000,000. As a VAR, I am going to get some really good hardware offers. I would like to pass along the great deals I get to any geeks hoping to advance the lowly "set top box."
