I seem to remember that Midnight Commander (mc) should be able to do ftp. (perhaps it needs some kind of patch for it) If you prefer something more GUIish two kfm (KDE file manager) windows should do the trick. It allows simple DnD between your home dir in one window and the ftp dir in another. [SuSE Linux] Help w/ Linux Boot Menu under Win95

Well, my one major complaint against SuSE is the lack of good documentation. I know that RedHat kicks the crap out of SuSE with regard to this, and that SuSE better get its butt in gear if it wants to compete (in the US) with distributions supported by the likes of Netscape and Intel. I have followed exactly the instructions for a boot menu under windoze95 on p. 39 of the SuSE 5.3 manual. It doesn't work!!! The only way that I can get anything to work is to just call "loadlin hda6" from my autoexec.bat, and to forget about anything regarding linux in my config.sys. Can someone who has successfully gotten a boot menu running under win95 PLEASE send me a copy of their autoexec.bat, config.sys, and the files in the loadlin directory of the root dos/win drive. ( I have to keep microslop windows around for the girlfriend) I am giving SuSE every chance, but when something like this happens it is hard. And, last question, how is it that one really sets up this loadlin stuff in the first place? You can run "setup" on the CD, but this of course copies the image of a generic kernel to the newly created loadlin directory, rather than the kernel that one has customized. [SuSE Linux] Converting BackOffice Server to Linux?

Here's the shit in a nutshell. Client has NT 4.0 SP3 running with Back Office 4.0, and the server runs like crap. The server is mainly used for/as a print server and sharing files for your typical Win apps, such as Peach Tree, Office 97, global share directories, (for user data) etc. All of the client systems are running Win95, plus 1 NT workstation. I realize Samba is necessary, but any other clues? The server should just do it's job and the clients could care less as long as everything hum's along. The printer is a HP 4 plus if that matters..., server is a P200 with 128MB ram. [SuSE Linux] How do I get TWO ethernet cards working on the same computer?

I'm trying to set up a SuSE 5.3 linux box with two ethernet cards - one a 3com pci card (runs on the 3c59 modules), and the other a 3com isa 3c509B (supposedly runs on the 3c509 module). The pci card works fine on eth0 with the 3c590 module, and that card connects my compter to the net. I want to connect the 3c509 card to another the card on another computer and then use masquerading to give the second computer access to the internet. Unfortunately, I can't get the 3c509 module to recognize the isa card on eth1. When I do a modprobe 3c509, or an insmod 3c509, all I get is this message: 3c509.o: init_module: Device or resource busy I've tried setting irq=10. That doesn't help. What else should I be trying? How do I find out what "device or resource" might be "busy?" I have disabled PnP on the card (via a dos program provided by 3com), and I know that the card works fine in the isa slot of another computer. So the card itself is unlikely to be the problem? So what else do I need to do? Is there some obscure incompatibility between my two cards? Are they fighting for the same base address, or what? Thanks. [SuSE Linux] DNS Lookup problems

Hi, I have a problem looking up named servers, ie: www.netscape.com I'm using Kppp as the dialer and YaST to set up basic networking. Numerical IP's work great, but when it comes to named servers, no go.. I am selecting the default gateway in Kppp setup and have entered the ISP's correct DNS entries. Can anyone suggest what I am missing?
